Welcome home, Joanna! I just looked at your apartment online. Lovely! What a wonderful way to experience Rome (or anywhere), staying days at a time, finding home-grown restaurants and shops, interacting with local people, and soaking up the real ambience of a place. Experiences like that form the special memories I hold especially dear from our travels. When John and I recall something from our trips, it's more often "remember the fun guy in the gelato shop in Rome" or "remember that great little restaurant run by the guy who spoke about as much English and we spoke French and so called an English-speaking friend to come over to the restaurant to help us with the menu" (in Paris, no less). Somehow those memories often stick with me better even than some of the grand sites.
