Olivia - yes, we were successful in getting business class from LAX to Tokyo on Japan Airlines (via San Francisco) and then from Hong Kong to LAX (via Cathay Pacific). I started booking as early as possible and was unable to get the JAL nonstop from LAX to Tokyo. The strange thing for us is the domestic Japan flight that we booked from Tokyo to Osaka - there is an odd Japan Airlines rule that award travel can't be booked into domestic J class (business class) no matter the availability or what award is used. It's only an hour flight so we will certainly survive.

One of the agents I spoke to at AA said that Asia award travel is in extremely high demand at this time. I also booked as soon as the flights came open for booking.
