Being asked for a Roll Call.

We are full completely now for everything. I am doing a list of people who are coming but not outlining all the camp assignments or room numbers at Birkenhead House and all the time frames yet as there may still be some movement around to make things work. It changes almost daily but I "think" we have it set now.

There are a few names I left out as I know they have not posted yet and it is up to them to let you know if they are coming.

Sorry Jan - how that happened I dont know. I was typing away and I have another couple with the names Charles and Anne - must have been in my brain I just booked them on a trip.

Isure wish that we were on the list. Marty is afraid to plan anything so far in advance because of health problems.Our trip to Africa was his favorite trip.We loved seeing the animals in the wild.I have come to hate seeeing them in cages at the zoo.If anyone is forced to cancel at the last minute don't forget about us.

I am about to send you out a letter with some choices to make for ROAR 2. There will be a form attached to fill in and send back to me. With this many people that is the best way to be sure no mistakes are made. (It is short)

I KNOW it is very early but I do want to negotiate for the shark tour, and plan on chartering the whole boat for each of the three groups at Birkenhead House if enough want to participate to make that work.

It is not cheap and things go up every year. So if I negotiate now they wont have their prices yet for 2008 and we may be able to lock in 2007 pricing. EVERY little bit helps. So I need to get an idea now of how many are planning on doing the tour.

Since I am doing the shark boat I am also giving you your choices for some other items that I will need to know so might as well do it all at the same time.

Should get this out to you tomorrow or Friday before I leave for N.Z. Then if you can send in your forms, via email, fax or mail, I will have the information I need to work on the negotation when I get back.

Ngaire-You mentioned that there are medics aboard the shark boat, but what about really good seamstresses to sew things up? Only kidding. Boy are you organized. I just want to make sure that you don't ordinarily decide what you are eating on a day to day basis 2 years in advance, because we have medication available for that now!

I nearly asked everyone who drank Decaf because it can be a problem getting decaf and many Americans like Decaf. With this size group I just decided to order it anyway. So hopefully we will have it.

I also have Birkenhead and the Camps trained to bring coffee with desserts to my groups now instead of 30 minutes later. Started this on TUSK.

The manager at Birkenhead said no one had ever told her that Americans like their coffee with their dessert. She was actually pleased I mentioned it. She send me an email about transport for the shark tour and said "by the way - we will have decaf coffee and be sure to serve coffee with desserts"

Me focused on food and meals --- really????

Ngaire, as has been said before many times here, "you never cease to amaze me!" I love details, details, details - and faxing you our choices today for the menus was gratifying actually! ;)

We are not excited, or anything! Should be time to watch Ray's ROAR DVD pretty soon again, come to think of it...

Mitch - Ngaire eats lamb. If she needs a change of pace, lamb and dover sole. If that's not available, then she eats a double order of lamb. Her Chinese name for cruises is Luscious Lamb.

If modern medicine has now achieved the breakthrough which means we all can eat like that and not gain weight, SIGN ME UP! The inventor should immediately win the Nobel prize for medicine.

My work schedule in Tokyo revolves around semi-annual meetings that I cannot miss. Unfortunately, these meetings are held sometime in March (through mid-April) and September (through mid-October). Not knowing exact dates more than a few months in advance, it is too hard to plan and book travel during these periods. Therefore, we have had to cancel ROAR II.

We sure will miss the chance to see all of our friends again (I mean our travel mates) and the animals.

Marc, You and Arlene will be missed. We'll just have to come and visit you.

Marc, what a bummer (although I have no idea whether I would have met up with you except on a plane from one place to another!). I hope this doesn't also mean canceling PANDA, which is in September this year!

I got sort of lucky/unlucky with respect to PANDA. The meeting that I have to attend is on 25 September so I will take the Shinkansen up from Kyoto in the morning and back to Kyoto that night.

Great! Well, all is good, at least for the next time I get to be with you and Arlene!

Marc and Arlene, so sorry that you'll miss ROAR II. Any chance you will be able to consider fitting in ICE as a substitute?

Yes, Marc and Arlene will be sorely missed. This has of course caused my color co-ordinated spreadsheet to change slightly. Some of you were on waitlists for things Marc and Arlene had so I will be in touch with you by email for your changes.

They sure will be missed. Nothing is better than riding with Arlene. Her sense of wonder made my safari experience so much better on ROAR.

Bummer! I really wanted to meet you guys. :( Hopefully we still can someday on a cruise or ROAR 3! ;)

Arlene & Marc, we'll miss you guys in Africa...especially if we find ourselves involved in another multi-country caper! But, we'll look forward to seeing you on FJORDS!

Needless to say Marc and I are extremely disapointed :mecry: :mecry: we have to miss ROAR II. We really tried to swing it, I even told Marc's superiors that I would commit to additional time (years) in Japan if he would agree to Marc taking off then! We just couldn't justify his being away from work at that time, unfortunately. If ROARII is anything like ROAR, it will be a great trip.

We won't be able to make ICE either, unfortunately. :mecry: :mecry: :mecry: We need to keep some vacation time banked just in case something would happen and we would need to make a trip to the states, and as ICE comes right on the heels of PANDA, we can't swing it either. Believe me I TRIED!! ;)

Both of these will be fantastic trips with wonderful people, but as we are still working stiffs, we just can't do all the trips! :mecry:
