Haven't been on a ship since '05 Mariner, but when saying needed to buy new sheets, DH said he wanted to replicate RSSC's bottom sheet, duvet, no top sheet. Just curious if they still do this?

There is a top sheet under the duvet on the Voyager.

The old bedding didn't have a top sheet. Just duvets. The new bedding they made a more layered bed when they added the Anchini linens.

A lot of places we have stayed in Europe just have the duvet, no top sheet. My son actually does this because he hates making his bed, and it just makes things easier.
BUT, you have to launder the duvet cover just as often as you would a sheet, and it is a big pain for me to get the thing on and off of the comforter. So it would not be my preference (unless I struck it rich and could hire a maid to do it.)

I for one am glad to hear that they have added a top sheet. I get too warm under that duvet.

Sue - that's why you crank the AC! I love getting under the duvet when the cabin is freezing.

Andrea, you must be too young to have the wonderful experience of hot flashes yet!

I think it would be too warm in the summer (and don't want to pay the power bill to keep the air that cold!) Wonder what Masaki keeps the thermostat on? Maybe they have lightweight duvets in Hawaii?

Rachel, excellent point about removing and replacing in the cover - especially king size!

I think DH likes the one piece, instead of aligning two. Think I'll keep quiet about sheets! :D

I can't sleep under a duvet, but then I couldn't when I was much younger. Mark liked them for a while, but now that his anemia is better, he joins me in asking that they be taken away and a blanket put on the bed.

And I've always had to have a top sheet, no matter what.

Summer camp wasn't a big thing in the tiny little town I grew up in, so no.

Duvet hint....we use two twin duvet, no top sheet on our king, "his" and "hers"....keeps everyone happy - kick it off, or snuggle under. Either way I'm convinced it is the best solution, wish I'd thought of it a long time ago. Yes, the washing and replacing is a pain, but it's not as hard with twin size, and they make lightweight duvets - found ours at Ikea!

And yes, easy making the bed in the morning!!!

I highly recommend the silk duvets you can buy in China, and probably now over the internet. We went to a silk factory and watched the ladies pulling one strain of silk after another over a frame to make them. They are incredibly light weight, warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

We bought ours in 2001 and it is no worse for wear - and I love how they were already touting "green" products back then.

Is it washable, Leslie, or do you have to dryclean it?

You put it inside a duvet cover and wash just the cover - the recommendation is to air out the silk interior in the sunlight once or twice a year.

When we were on the Navigator last May there was only one (large) duvet on the bed plus a sheet under it. Here in Europe we don't sleep that way - it is either duvets or sheets and blankets (which I personally loathe!) So we simply told the stewardess to please replace the one duvet with two single ones, and to remove the sheet which is superlfuous. she did and we slept happily!!

Oh, and one other thing - here in Switzerland lots of people hang their duvets out of the bedroom windows every morning to air them. We don't, but we do have winter and summer duvets (different amounts of feathers) and so when we change them we send the winter ones off to the laundry where they get washed and dried. Reverse procedure in the autumn! Duvet covers just get laundered like sheets and pillowcases...

Glad to hear they have added a sheet under the duvet. My husband Hates the duvets; he says he is busy throwing it off or pulling it on all night long!! I think it's twin beds from now on and he can have his bed the way he likes it--with blanket and sheet. I sort of like the duvet but I have to agree I get too hot. And I am SO way beyond hot flashes!
