The 2007 Cruise Atlas shows the Voyager will have a LCB workshop on the Funchal to FLL 11/11/07 sailing.

Has anyone done a workshop and if so please tell me about it i.e. how many days does it last, how many hours, how far in advance do you need to sign up for it?

I sure don't want to be up every day at 6 a.m. for a workshop, but I love to cook! :)

Sue, others have done this workshop more recently than I but I know you will not have to be up at 6 to cook!

When I did it in 2002, we were assigned to groups of 16 and we met three times as a class for about an hour and a half. We prepared an appetizer, a main course, and a dessert. Our instructor was very nice and lots of fun. Much of the work was done for us. We usually arrived to find our ingredients measured and set out at our individual stations. The teacher prepared the dish and then we followed his lead, after which we ate the results of our labors. As I recall, we also drank a lot of wine while we cooked.

There was a graduation party for us, and two dinners. If your husband does not take the class he can still accompany you to these events. We received some goodies, such as the CB cookbook and a nice apron. Somewhere along the way I lost my chef's hat.

We also had a shore excursion with our teacher. We went to the markets in Hamilton, Bermuda, and he talked to us about selecting meat, fish, produce, and wine. I wonder if they still include this kind of excursion as part of the class.

I thought it was very enjoyable and I met a lot of people I otherwise would not have. It's definitely a relaxed and very fun experience that does not occur at the crack of dawn.

I've done this twice and am signed up to do it again on CROSS. They will have several groups; Some days you might cook at 9AM and other groups might cook at 1 - they alternate. First you see a demo and then you cook the dishes. Depending on the teacher, you will have things partially prepped by the kitchen staff.

It's very fun and quite social - and, yes, I called it Cooking with WINE.

Everything that MarnaLou has said was true for us last June as well. I think the earliest we had to be in class was about 9 a.m., as I recall, and that was just once. We had three classes, spread through the first week of a 10-day cruise, and then several special dinners, and a special galley tour. It's not onerous, although the classes are 3-4 hours long. The only downside for me was that it gave me another chance to eat! We kept our hats and aprons, but lost our towels the first day!

Echo Kathy and MarnaLou as to how the class works. You should sign up as soon as you can, several of us are already signed up for CROSS, thats the November 2007 cruise you mentioned. Are you guys on CROSS? or thinking about it?

I don't remember having wine while we cooked on the Panama Canal, nor did we have a market excursion. I hope they have wine on CROSS, but I don't think they will have a market excursion since the class is during the transatlantic portion. We never cooked at 6:00am, I would have surely missed those classes. :D :D

editing to say - Whoops, Sue, just realized you are on CROSS, I didn't know that, guess I'd better go back and check the roll call and see who else might have been added. When did you guys sign up? Thats great, look forward to meeting you - keeps getting better everyday!

JoAnn ROTFLMAO! :app:

Sue, we are signed up for Le Cordon Bleu as well. Did y'all book CROSS? If so, you probably will want to get your name in, if you plan on doing the class.

You know, just like on MUSH, I might want to get off the ship mid-ocean.

Especially if we can SHOP!

We are just finishing the Le Cordon Bleu class on the Mariner and I highly recommend it. We have had a lot of fun as a group and our chef/teacher is great. This morning we are in Otaru, Japan and we are going with the Executive Chef (Quinn) and Frank (our chef/teacher) to the market to shop for fresh produce, herbs, and who knows what else. We have had wine at the end of every class or you can have soft drinks, coffee, whatever. Yesterday, we cooked the Chocolate Souffle - and surprise -- everyone's rose just like they should and they were delicious. Since we were the morning session, we had desert BEFORE lunch.

I was quoted $395 per person today when I called Regent to reserve our two spots.

When we did the Cordon Bleu class in June, at the banquet dinner they passed out certificates and our choice of two great CB cookbooks, one on main dishes and another on desserts.

But Wendy and I took the course together (which is a whole story in itself). So we got a copy of both cookbooks. Just one more bonus of doing activities together with your significant other.

Jan mentioned having dessert before lunch because their course was in the morning. Ours was too, so we also got started on our wine-drinking activity while in the kitchens cooking the dessert.
