We have had a recent spate of spammers lately. I try to remove them ASAP and thanks to everyone's emails and private messages, we seem to zap them as soon as we can. I am working on banning them by their internet service providers, which I am pretty sure that none of us LCTers use. They are posting from Europe and using isps that none of us would normally use. If you are having a problem logging in, let me know. Please bear with me while we try to get rid of these pests and by no means should you ever click on any of the links in their profiles. Pam tested one for me and it closed down her computer. Luckily, she has a MAC so if the link was infected, she probably won't get a virus. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.infohub.com/forums/images/smilies/ihe_nospam.gif)

Well, it looks like banning by email addess isn't working, lol. The only other option I have is to for me to OK registrations. That means, the person would have to wait for me to OK them before they can post. I don't mind doing that but I think it would be a pain for the person to have to wait for my ok.
We will see what Ngaire wants to do when she gets home.

Karen...you do an amazing job keeping us spam free! It's unfortunate that there are individuals who abuse the internet this way.
Thank you for all that you do to keep this such a user friendly and spam free place! :app:

Karen,
There is some sort of a weight loss message in the welcome section . .I don't know if it's spam/advertising or what but figured you might want to check.
Thanks for everything you do!

Consider using an image containing a key that must be entered to register. That will keep the bots from registering.

We have that on our website with the image containing a key to sign up, but we still get anywhere from 2-6 these bogus signups daily.
Ours have emails that end in names like:
@cashette.com, @bestboyfilms.com, @ukr.net, @telegraf.by, @mail.ru, @web.de, @statistics-fund.com, @inmail24.com,@gawab.com ...
there are others, but those are only the ones that have tried to sign up in the past few days.
On our site we do have it so they have to be approved, and we now know that we have to ban anyone with a birthday of March 28, 1983 and one of those strange email addresses.
They still try daily, but at least they never get to the point where they might post or send members emails.
Unfortunately they must also have IP masking (which shows us a bogus IP) because each one of these that try has a different IP address, so it becomes almost impossible to track and contact the service provider.

Karen if I have time later, I'll look for some of the others and pm you.
The clue for us is the birthday which is a requirement to sign up on our site.

I think that one may just be somebody very young, looking for cruise boards. Wanting to find somebody else who is cruising at the same time.

I read WickedGal's post a number of times.... it just did not pass the smell test, to me.
There were 2 hyperlinks in the post: one for LCT, itself and one for something else that just did not look safe (I did not click on it).
As Pam said, one could read the post the way Pam did... I did not.
1. No one who read even one thread here would have posted the way she did. 2. A show of hands: how many here take the time to embed a hyperlink to LCT in any of their posts? I smell a bot at work.
Just my 2 cents.
After all, if it looks & quacks like a duck, odds are pretty good that it is a duck.
That being said, this was the first I have seen of spam here. & I have yet to receive email spam from here..... Oh! I get plenty of spam, just not from any connection to here.
Guess Karen is doing a great job (as usual!).

Doug, Robert and I weren't talking about the WickedGirl's post. There is one in the January roll call that we thought was harmless, the only link is an email address. I would never have called WickedWhoever's post harmless, and I don't believe Robert would, either.

I missed Wickedgals post completely, as it had been deleted before I saw it. Then when Peggy said something about January 07, I was curious. Seems harmless enough, like a teen trying the wrong venue.
It is nice to know that even when Karen is gone, these things still get taken care of.

Pam & Robert,
Sorry I mis-read your posts. I did not know about that other post.
As I said, Karen & the rest of you do such a great job id'ing these bad folks so quickly that WickedGal was actually the first spam I have seen AND that post was gone within a couple of hours!
And ROBERT!!! Have a great time on your cruise. (I know that you will!) It is a magical cruise.
