Two days in Petra would be great; THREE would be even better. Petra is a full day trip from Aqaba; you will walk miles. The next day you can see Wadi Rum. A full day 4x4 would be fantastic following the steps of Lawrence of Arabia. A third day, you could see Mt Nevo and Madaba or just take advantage of beach and duty free shopping in Aqaba.

If you have extra time in Jordan there are great ruins at Jerash (or Gerash) 30 minutes from Amman,
The extensive ruins rival Ephesus but NO crowds - our group of 7 only saw a handful of other people.

Karen,
Yes, I meant the May 2012 cruise to Luxor from Ist.on the Mariner which was cancelled Twas changed to 3 cruises in Med only..no Egypt
I was confused as I booked a May 2012 Carib cruise for the Honey for her Bday. She doesnt know
So now, we are on 5/08/12 to Carib and the 10/?/2011 from Ist to Luxor BUT I read here somewhere that a posters wife does not like the Voyager. Wondering why

Hi, Some folks prefer the Mariner and others prefer the Voyager. Personally, I like the Voyager because I like the bathrooms better. I also like the location of the little dressing table. The room configuration is just better. I don't take showers and Doug doesn't take baths, so we like to have both options and Doug doesn't like cracking his head in the shower / tub combo on the Mariner. Others like the layout of the Mariner ship a bit better. It is personal preference. Also, in the past, the Mariner was smoother sailing than the Voyager, which had some rear end vibrations. Both are great ships, IMHO.The Penthouse suites on the Mariner are absolutely lovely and we really like those when we upgrade.

I agree with Andi. I like the Voyager cabins and cabin hallways better than the Mariner but I like the Mariner public spaces better.

Mariner has much better public spaces; quieter Compass Rose due to a divider in middle of room; more usable stairwells; a 100 times better observation lounge; and a fantastic coffee bar/libray/computer room configuration. These factors, to me, far outweigh the smaller bathrooms and cabins.

We tried Mariner for the first time last summer (have been on Voyager and Navigator before) and agree with Marc's observations above(especially the Coffee bar!). Also, we had a shower cabin and since we don't use the tub, we much preferred having the bigger shower (vs the smaller one in Voyager and Navigator).

I like the wider cabin deck corridors on the Voyager - with both the port and starboard cabins on the same "hall" - far friendlier. The Voyager cabins are bigger/better laid out. And there is no comparison between the bathrooms - the Voyager wins, hands down.
Having said all of the above, I had a wonderful trip on the Mariner earlier this year.
And I can't say enough about the crew/staff on both ships.

Until few yrs ago I preferred the Voyager but have to agree with Marc's observations. For me it really is a toss up

Prefer Voyager. I think the hallways in Mariner are dreary. But I am happy to be sailing on either!!

We prefer the Mariner to the Voyager since we don't spend that much time in the suite. Love the big showers on the Mariner, but mainly love the Coffee Connection, Horizon Lounge and Observation Lounge on the Mariner. But our favorite Regent ship is the Navigator.

Peggy, I'd have to agree about the Navigator! Of course it helps that my favorite cruise was on that ship. :D I just like a smaller ship.
