"Some people were truly afraid with the high winds and earthquake type movements of the ship."

Not dismissing those people - can happen on any cruise right??? You cannot expect to be reimbursed for your nervousness - weather has happened to us on previous trips - Mush weather conditions piece of cake - we used Tony's cell for calls - parking in this burg another $4 a night - maybe it is due to watching TV tonight and seeing the horror and sadness in lives from 9/11 - I will pay my cat sitter an extra $25 and not put it through insurance - just rejoicing in a great cruise and life!!! Marc, in response to your question, Are we really due additional compensation beyond making us whole? I do feel that everyone on the cruise was inconvenienced to some extent by the delay and some form of fair good will gesture by Regent is appropriate.

Tina, I agree with you that Mark Conroy did the right thing by quickly stating Regent would at least try to make people whole. I do disagree with his contention that, "This is an event that is hard to anticipate, failure of the propulsions system should not normally be on our radar screen." Problems with Azipod systems have been well publicized over the last few years.

I also didn't mean to convey that the problems with the delay were tough on me. It was a fantastic cruise. Lauri and I both had a great time and I have the pictures to prove it. Tom.

Tom, you make sense....almost. Was it you and "Lauri" or you and "Mona" that had a great time? :pass:

Tom: Various feelings - headache for some more than others - out of pocket $$$ should be covered - I think Regent did a great job - if they give me something fine - if not fine too -

Oh my goodness. I'd better be more careful in how I phrase things.

Tina addressed her post to Lauri and Tom so I pointed out we both had good times. I know Lauri had a good time because I have pictures. And Mona and I had a great time meeting Lauri and everyone else. Tom.

Yikes, I stay off the board for an evening and all sorts of rumors fly!

Tina,
I agree that it was appropriate and kind of Mr. Conroy to reply promptly and personally.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the bonus day, and I was one of the fortunate ones with RSSC air so I was not spending my day scrambling for alternative plans. But I will say the travel desk was not very helpful or forthcoming with information. I heard quite a bit of "Omaha is handling it". Then when I got to Anchorage and tried to check in for my flight, the RSSC reps were of no help. The very kind front desk supervisor at the Hilton spent a good deal of time on the phone with Alaska Airlines trying to find my reservation as the travel desk had booked it incorrectly. In the end it all worked out, but I'm still out a vacation day. Will RSSC compensate me for that? I sincerely doubt it. But some sort of good-will gesture would be welcome; the lack of that has left me feeling like RSSC doesn't value my repeat business.

I addressed my earlier posting to Tom and Lauri as they had written the two posts prior to mine.....so sadly no truth to onboard rumors I might have started by trying to respond to 2 posts at once

I hope this gets worked out soon....Hope to meet you on future travels.

LOL Tom!! BTW, loved your Pentagon pix yesterday!

I'm sorry for those of you that were really inconvenienced with additional cost and time required on MUSH to sort with flights, guides and vans. I do consider Tom and I lucky in that regard.

As for compensation....if we get it fine, if not I can live with that too. We all had a great time and even as we limped our way to Whittier, we all kept an optomistic attitude.

I think we need to give it a rest and wait and see what Regent decides.

I think most of us are of that "let's get it done now" personality, and when somebody we are dealing with takes some time, we tend to hyperventilate. I'm sorry MUSH ended for some of you, with a case of hyperventilation, but my suggestion is that infamous brown paper bag for this week. Give RSSC a chance to come up with a battle plan, and to make you whole.

Breathe in...breathe out...

Great advice Pam - we've only been off ship a few days - as I mentioned on another board, Delta canceled an LA flight for me one time and I arrived home missing a day of work and had to take another vacation day. I didn't expect Delta to pay me for that day - trials and tribulations of travel - good positive attitude best medicine -

Nice save Tom!!! I wondered too what you meant! Anyway, hopefully the DC'ers won't get wind of this, otherwise you are in big trouble at the DC get together in a couple of weeks!!

And as to the rest AMEN! I still think there should be some kind of compensation, certainly not of the level for those that were due to board this week, but something. Now that is my opinion and I'm sticking to it - and nobody will notice anyway!! :p

Yes that was certainly a bonus dinner!! I loved your friends Dick and Nancy!! Please give them my regards when you speak to them.

I guess all I wanted was some sort of acknowledgement that we'd had a less than perfect ending to our trip, especially as a repeat passenger. Just a token of goodwill. RSSC has been so wonderful about that in the past; I felt it was lackluster this time. Won't stop me from cruising them again :)

Gosh Lauri glad to hear that - thought you were pouting and abandoning ship - curiosity how would they acknowledge it?? It was my 8th cruise - I thought they were class act -

I'm not sure what would be appropriate. I don't really expect much. I know I'll not be compensated for a lost vacation day, and I really don't expect to. Really, a goodwill token of some sort is all I'd like; simply recognition of the difficult situation.

The staff on the ship were beyond classy; I was truly amazed at how well they held up not only under very rough conditions, but were pleasant also. John and Lyndsay should be highly commended for their attitude and grace.

RSSC has always come through in the past. I have no doubt they will this time. (One of those cushy new bathrobes would be nice!!LOL!!!)

I treasure my vacation plans and my vacation days. Sorry to those of you who lost something on the deal. My sympathy also goes out big time to the folks who planned for a year or more to see Alaska (perhaps the trip of a lifetime!) and got 2 ports. They received immediate compensation in the form of credits, but what a disappointment. And getting to Alaska then not knowing if you even get to take the cruise to start with! I hope they at least got beautiful sea days to enjoy - and I hope we get a report!

WARP-someone should be able to figure out a way to use that as the name for one of the next LCT cruises-seems appropos, doesn't it?
