I had read that, too, Maria. The whole ordeal is truly horrifying!
I do hope that if Jean and Clyde were on this sailing, that they made it through as well as could be expected under such frightening circumstances.

Learning that J&C are aboard personalizes this a little too much for me! Knowing them they took it in stride.
I am pretty sure that cruise ships are armed to some degree. I once asked but got an answer that suggested to me they don't like to divulge their contingency plans. Does anyone know what they have on board? I am glad this little ship did not return fire as it sends a message along with the ammunition that "we are ready to fight with you". I think simply getting out of range was the perfect response.

I thought it was interesting in the CNN interview with the president of Seabourn this weekend that she did not want to divulge what security measures were taken. When pressed, she mentioned two types, some sort of audio thing that emits a loud sound, I think, and then a water cannon or something. However, she went no further to elaborate on what further tricks they have in their "arsenal". In a conversation once with a captain at dinner once, the topic came up, (re: terrorists), and I was left to feel like, "You don't need to know, but be assured you are safe"

so glad to hear the Jean and Clyde are ok. It's amazing to see people you are familiar with. As it was mentioned in a previous post, Norm Fisher is a regular poster on the cc board and had been posting throughout his voyage with incredible pictures. thanks god for his pictures but most important, everyone is safe.

I got an e-mail from Jean and they are fine. I don't think she realizes what a celebrity she is in this part of the cyber world. They are doing so well that after her comments about the scare, she went on to worry that she had forgotten Ngaire's address, how nice the staff was, and how everything is no better than on the RSSC ships! She looks forward to telling her tale over a big cosmo "mixed by Todd" on MUSH!

What a trooper!! But we all knew that right? :app:
Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends ~~M. Angelou~~

Here's part of Jean's e-mail:
"...in this case we couldn't have had a more clever Captain to outfox these horrible "pirates"
I have sent her a link to lct. Like me, she is challenged on certain matters having to do with computers, but since she and Clyde are on for three legs, they won't be back until December 9. Hope she will figure out a way to post! If she can, I have no doubt she will.

She said it was called an LRAD, but she wasn't sure what the acronym stood for. She said it is a loud piercing noise that would almost burst their eardrums according to what she heard. Oh, and I totally agree with you about the idiots over on CC. We had one post to our thread for our Silver Whisper cruise that said that with us finally leaving, maybe our "boring" thread might finally go away as well. Their just has to be someone to cause trouble I guess. :lct:
