Fjords is our next big trip too, we can't wait! It is going to be great, given the group of people that are going and the itenerary.

What excursions are you all thinking about doing?

Haven't given the excursions any thought yet. Of course we are traveling with Alan's Mom (89) and sis so will have to see how it all works out.

Ladies, Trust me, Danish men are very easy on the eyes. That is if you like tall, muscular, white blonde, blue eyed men with dazzling white teeth. All Denmark is yours to enjoy.

Can I join your group Joanna? I've been trying to get Michael married off for years, so perhaps Tony could convince him to tag along with his group. As they say, you never know your luck in a big city!! "Our" Mary managed to snare Prince Frederick, so magic happens! Lee

Andrea, I wish! Unfortunately, travel in June is not in the cards for us (well, for me at least) as it's a very busy time at work. Once Grant finds out about "Tony's Tour" and the "meter maids," he may sign up and leave me at home!

Tony just viewed the meter maids video and he's working on "Tony's Tour of Danish Women" - I think he plans some sort of "men only" brochure? I doubt I'll be able to post it on LCT. Anne, I think he plans to enlist some help/suggestions from Gary -

He can ask, Joanna, but brace yourself. Will it involve Danish butter, beer, sunning, etc?

Let's get cracking on TAMALE tour (Tall Adult MALE) in Copenhagen.

Cheers, Anne

I'm bringing the mole sauce, brimming with chocolate .. mmmm! I'll suggest the picante sauce to our recently-minted Spanish expert, Michelita.

Excursions open for booking next Friday, 2/23.

We will be signing up for some of the hiking ones - Olivia, which hike did you take that was full of boulders?

Just started planning our excursions; these look pretty good:

Hellesylt - Overland Tour to Geiranger with the Briksdal Glacier

Longyeargen - Glacier Hike on Larsbreen

Honningsvag - Deep Sea Rafting and Ice-Bar

Gudvangen - Overland Excursion to Flam

For the cities of Tromso, Bergen, and Oslo, probably just take taxis to tour unless anyone has some good recommendations.

I took a few Norway books out of the library today. I was looking for Nevlunghavn with no luck - then I realized that is Dag's home town....

We're looking at most of the excursions you are Marc - although we may sign up for "Sognefjord Hike and Flåm Railway Ride", (from Flam), but the "Overland Excursion to Flåm" looks good as well (from Gudvangen.)

Experience on Marco Polo 2001:

Excursion from Flam on railway, etc., very worthwhile! Does it include stop at Stalheim? - spectacular views!

Oslo: did ship excusion which included Kon-Tiki museum, Viking ship museum(?) and Vigeland Park; Vigeland Park definitely worth the visit!! I think you would enjoy and can do independently depending on time in port.

Bergen: depending on weather, take the funicular to Mt. Floyen - beautiful view! Took taxi.

Sorry I didn't take time to read RSSC's tour descriptions, but think you will choose wisely. Had to look up some names from the only scrapbook we've made, but if you have any questions, please ask.

Ours was a combined cruise of Scandinavia and the Baltics so we saw a lot, but did not go as far north as you will.

LOL!!! Yeah, I wonder why???? I would still be cautious with any excursion planned by Regent in Spitzbergen. I think Ngaire had the right idea when she decided to stay and just walk to town!

Maria held my hand almost all the way over that rockfield to get me back to the bus. I think it freaked me out when that one younger woman fell and broke her wrist and had to wait all day for treatment. My Joanna had gone to the top with the "brave" people, so I was on my own! That was the best cruise I've ever taken (LCT group was a big part of the reason), and it sits in my memory bank (as well as ofoto) as the "excursion from hell!" Next time, I'm going to stay in town in this port!

Olivia, I think we were holding to each other for dear life! My DH went with Joanna and "the brave ones" too! Good decision, stay in town!

I remember finding in the internet a company that offered dog sled rides but the time conflicted with the ship's departure. That sounded like fun.

We just walked into Longyearben (it's a fairly long walk, by the way) when we were in Spitzbergen. It's a nice little town with some nice shops and a post office if you want to send post cards. But even the town isn't without risk there--some of the people walk around with rifles to ward off polar bears that occasionally wander into town. We didn't see a bear, but we did see bear prints on the walk back to the ship. That was just before we were attacked by a demonic sea bird who dived for my head several times--even hit me once with her wing. I assumed at the time that she had a nest nearby where we were walking. Bottom line in Spitzbegen--proceed with caution ;) .

There wasn't a shuttle when we were there for Ninja in 2005. I think some people complained, so maybe they've added one. The walk was a little over a mile, I'd guess, and pretty uninteresting until you got to the town(except for the bear tracks and the attacking bird). All there was between the dock and the town were some marine suppliers and a bunch of big coal yards.

I'd love to see Olivia's photos - are they on the web?

I hate to bring this up so soon, but how hot/cold is the weather likely to be? I'm leaving here on 31 May, so have to get organised a little earlier than the rest of you. Bear tracks - wow!!! Lee

Lee, my photos will show the extremes in temps, but we started out in Iceland and it was really cold when we got up to the polar ice cap. That was a different album than the link The Norway photos started in a port named Leknes, as I remember. Temps were all over the place! For example, one picture in Gerainger I was in a tee shirt, and as we climbed up the mountain we were back in sweatshirts and it was cold!
