Kristin, have a great time on the Shadow in the Caribbean! I loved that ship, as you may know! Did you get a "special" suite this time? Looking forward to meeting you on ROAR 2!

Thank you, ladies! Joanna, we are going Barbados-Fort Lauderdale, 9 nts leaving 12/12. Staying in Barbados 2 nights beforehand. We are excited about this cruise because even though we've almost exhausted the Caribbean, this one hits 4 islands we haven't been to yet.

Olivia, yes, we got a "special" suite - only because the fares were incredibly low on this itinerary when we booked. We had wanted to book the Silver, but it was sold out...but Grand was available - after much hmm'ing and "oh-we-shouldn't-do-this"'ing, we gave in. You only live once!!! And now that SS has gotten so stingy on their high-end suite discounts, we are glad we got in on this just in time. I am sure this is the last we will see of anything besides a regular Verandah on Silversea!

The thing that will really be special about this cruise is, we are going with 3 other couples - we just can't wait!!!

Kristin, we've been dancing for a week and will be joining you on this cruise!! This will be our first time on Silverseas and we are really looking forward to it. When are you headed to Barbados? We're arriving late Saturday night which should give us two days in Barbados before the ship sails.
-
We just changed hotels to the Hilton as they now have some pretty wonderful prices and most of the reviews have been splendid.
-
See you soon!

Thanks, Karen and Donna!!!

Wonderful that we'll be seeing you, Susan & Jeff! We're staying at an all-inclusive place in Barbados - I forget the name - arriving 12/10. Are you going to embark early? We have opted for this - it's always worked out nicely in the past.

Have you cruised on other lines before? I do hope that you experience the same magic that we have aboard Silversea. See you in a few weeks! :)

We hope you and Susan and Jeff have a fabulous time. I will be anxious to hear all about it when you get back. Even if it is hearing what all we missed. We would have loved to sail with y'all. At least we will be with other LCT friends on SAND and now have our first opportunity on Regent.

I wish I was going. I wanted that cruise for a long time, but with all the other trips we had this fall, we just couldn't handle another one. Also, We are having company. Will have to wait for our March 19 one. We get to hit a few new islands, including Barbados.

I know what you mean about them being stingy on the suites. They will likely do what the market will bear, so if they don't sell, they will drop, but I think they will not have trouble filling just a few suites w/o a good deal.

Even I was able to endure a verandah suite, though I really would have enjoyed having a door/capsule & am looking forward to that medallion next fall. I know how you enjoy the amenities that come with the suites. The price difference is really going to be big, big, big from now on.

Congrats! The Silver Shadow is a lovely ship. I'll be equally eager to hear about the Grand Suite. Good for you to go for the upgrade! We had also checked into a Silver Suite but, alas, they were gone.

Looking forward to hearing all about your wonderful cruise upon your return.

Already looking over various itineraries to get our next cruise booked!

Kristin, Congrats on the Docs and the grand!

Kim and Alice, Ida and I just got back from nine days on the Shadown last Tuesday. The cruise was fabulous. Kim (Seadog), Alice and I dove in Dom Rep, Grand Cay, and Belize and the diving was very good, exceptional in Belize. We enjoyed the passenger mix (1/3rd) European, and made great freinds with two couples from Norway--one of the Norwegians even dove Grand Cayman with us. Don asked in an earlier thread what the house champagne was: Pierre Joulet and Pommery, they no longer serve Vueve Cliquot complimentary. We ate in Le Champagne one night--one of the best degustation meals we've had.

Even tho we were told early embarkation was not available (due to a charter the week before) we decided to go to the pier in San Juan at noon....we were immediately met by the Shadow's concierge, Angela, who said she would take care of our four (heavy) bags and invited us on board for lunch (in The Restaurant) and said our suite would be available after lunch (it was--at 1:15)...and SS did not charge us for boarding early. We were then (first couple) able to make our reservations (u can now only make one rsvn for La Terraza, wait list the rest--hint if u go to Panorma for pre dinner drinks, and then try LT about 8ish--you may get in--we did once, and another couple got in three times) for LT and LeChampagne

Ida closed the Panorama and then the bar with her music (Latin CDs) she had a group of Spanards who danced with her--they were in a friendly dance off with a group of Germans (who had their own CDs) (there were 45 on board)...Alice also danced the night away...where as Kim and I did not make it past the evenings entertainment (Jean Ann Ryan singers/dancers). We also became good friends with the gentleman hosts (Cliff and Nelson) esp Ida as they were dancing in the Panorama and Bar with her. Nelson then gave Ida and I private lessons ("Swing") as we are competing in a military ball version of Dancing with the Stars.

Hope your cruise was as fun as ours--we already booked the Shadow next November--and are counting the days..

Wes

Hooray, Kristin - your trip is coming up very soon! December in the Caribbean sounds so good :)

Wes, love reading about yours & Ida's experiences. Do you have photos? I've always wanted to dive Belize. Must have been gorgeous. Way-to-go, dancing in the military's version of "Dancing with the Stars". cheer

Thanks for reporting in, Wes, and I am so glad you enjoyed your cruise and the dives went well! Did they give you a decent on-board booking discount for the 07 cruise?

Wes, what a wonderful report! You and Ida seem to have such fun on cruises, and she is the "belle of the ball". Keep us posted about your military "Dancing With Stars" competition!

Kristin, I've only been on Shadow once, far less than you. It was 5% then, just like Regent.

You're Welcome.

Don, not twinkle toes but "disco duck" lol;
Michele, Alice took lots of photos and I will ck with her when she posts (she uses yahoo)
Kristin, unfortunately, SS changed the policy for onboard, they offer a select few so they offer more Silver sailings (what the cruise consultant told us) and you can't get an onboard discount in conjunction with a Silversailing,
which next years sailing is (40% off).

PS..Michele pls see Cruise Review thread for link to Alice's wonderful photos.

Kristin, Susan and I are meeting some friends coming over from Britain and they are joining us at the Hilton where we will walk over for lunch at Brown Sugar before we all board - so we'll be boarding right around 3 (and I guess like everyone else immediately head over to La Terraza for our reservations (I guess we can eat there twice - once with our reservations and once with our friends). If you like it you may be able to do it three times....
-
With the recent deep freeze here we are definitely looking forward to this.
-
We have cruised pretty regularly over the past 9 years - mostly on Celebrity, but did cruise with Regent last year. We are looking forward to the "all-inclusiveness" of this cruise and just hanging and having fun!!
-
We look forward to meeting you. Jeff

ColonelWes, are they serving the Perrie Jouet around the ship complementary now?

I can't wait to hear the stories of this cruise. Don't everyone come back and get too busy with the holidays to give us some details!

Debbie, they serve Pommery and Pierre Joliet (not Perrie Jouet--a cut above). Unfortunately, they stopped serving veuve cliquot as a house pour. r/wes

Our last 2 cruises, it has been Perrier Jouet Grand Brut (www.perrier-jouet.com, click on "Our Champagnes" and select "Grand Brut"). They start pouring Pommery if they are running out of Perrier Jouet.
