Okay, I am sorry, but I am so excited I had to share this with someone...

Some of you will remember my brother from when his house burned down at Christmas a few years ago...

Anyway, he is a geologist who works in the oil field. His "hobby" is basically digging up dinosaurs. He has donated some to several of the largest museums in the United States, including the Museum of Natural History.

He recently found some intact skulls that he couldn't identify, so he ran them out to a museum in New Mexico. It turns out they are going to set the record for the oldest dinosaur fossils ever found in North America!!!!

Is that cool or what!!! :app: :app:

I am just so proud of him!!! I hope you don't mind this WAY off topic thread.

That is really neat.
We have lots of dinosaurs
fossils found about 80 miles north of us
around Jordan Montana.
A lady that works for Jan B found one and it
is named after her. It is on display at
Museum of the Rockies in Bozeman MT.
It is just amazing to me how someone can tell the difference between a rock and fossil when walking around.

OMG Sheri, that's so great! What an interesting job he has. Will the fossils remain in that museum?

Jim, my brother has one named after him too! :) I always laugh and say it's Tyrranosaurus (sp?) Bob, but I am know it is some long complicated name.

I am not sure what the name of his current find is, but will let you know when I find out. It may be that it doesn't have a name yet... "Bobosaurus" perhaps?? :D

I am not sure what he will do with these fossils. Right now, he has taken them back home.

Sheri, That is really neat to have a dinosaur named after you. Let us know when this new one gets a name.

Sheri, you have every right to brag! How cool! Not too many people can say they found dinosaur fossils, especially the oldest to date from North America.

I like the name Bobosaurus. I think that they should keep that. Congratulations to your brother, Sheri!

Sheri, speaking of Bobs, I think we discussed our brother's Bob on our Singapore to Sydney cruise. My brother Bob is a paleontologist (college professor) who also hunted dinosaurs before he retired. He used to take our kids to Montana to dig for dinosaur bones--they loved it. His favorite story though is about his student who became a marine biologist. The student discovered a new sponge species and named it after his former professor: "Sponge Bob".

The current news is that it is approx 230 million years old and is a "new" species, so they will undoubtedly name it after him. Cool beans!

Peggy, "Sponge Bob"...that's funny!! :) I do remember something about that conversation now that you mention it. It is such an interesting profession I think.

It may be a while before they have it formally examined, and even longer to actually name it.

His last one is called "Coahomasuchus kahleorum". "Kahle" being his last name. Not the most glamorous name in the world! :D
