Oh that is cute, Betty!! I scored 48% (Yankee). Barely into the Yankee category.
This one threw me:
6. Do you pronounce "cot" and "caught" the same way?
How else can you say it??

Fun quiz, Betty. My score was 88% (Dixie). Did you have any Confederate ancestors? I moved to NC at the age of 14, though.

Karen, I pronounce caught (or anything with aught) as "cawt" which is very different from cot, which rhymes with rot and tot. My ex husband is from Pittsburgh...his grandma used to say youens, which I had never heard prior to that.

I was 43% yankee.
Having grown up in California and having lived in Illinois, Colorado, Massachusetts; I guess my 15 years living in Alabama, Florida, and Virginia didn't "dixify" me as much as I thought. Of course, 43% yankee is 57% dixie so I guess Suzanne and aren't that far apart. :D

49% Yankee. Lived my whole life in Massachusetts and NY (4 years in PA)....don't understand how I have ANY DIXIE. I don't really agree with some things in the quiz....Pajamas (Pa Jalm as) is how they say it in Boston, yet it came out Southeastern. Pa Jam as is RI.

45% yankee - barely yankee. Most of the individual responses said western great lakes. That's consistent with where I grew up.

52% Dixie. Strange, considering I lived my first 19 years in Eastern PA and the past 42 years in MI. It must be all those vacations to Southern locations!

Heard this from a British Air rep in Florida who used to live in Boston. Bostonians took all the "R"s out of their vocabulary and sent them south to New York where they added them as extra's to their vocabulary. example: "ride in the kaah -- to vist a Nu Yawkah "

Funny, I'm Canadian, so I did this out of curiosity. Several answers that are obviously Canadian came out as "everywhere but the Great Lakes" (hah!), or "rarely used", or "Southern". These include: caramel (pronounced as 3 syllabies), running shoes, water fountain, soft drink. With these ambiguities, I'm barely Yankee. Go figure.

I scored 78% "definitely Southern." Whew, I kept getting responses such as "everyone in the USA says this." I thought for sure I'd lost my southern-ness.
It would have helped if they had asked the question, "What do you roll around in the grocery store?" Why a buggy, of course! Very southern.
