Today I lost a good friend very suddenly to cancer. I had the ultimate displeasure of making the diagnosis one month ago. He's the third loved one I've lost in 2 years and the sixth loved one diagnosed (many by me; the horror you can not imagine) in the last 2 years.

I'm sad, I'm scared, I'm...

Hugs please :(

Here's a hug, Lauri  . I'm sorry to hear about your friend's death. It must be hard to be medically involved, not easy to put emotions aside. You've had a devastating two years. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Lauri, I know all too well what you are going through. As much as we learn to build strong defenses and compartmentalize as physicians, every time I have a situation like this it takes a little bit out of my life that is not replaceable. My sincere condolences on your loss.

Dear Lauri, Our condolences on the most recent loss of a friend. The only good news is that, of all the diseases out there, we ARE getting closer to cures for cancer.

Thanks to all of you. It was a really hard day. My friend had been a physician in the community for 40 years. He was loved and respected by everyone. The scene in the ER yesterday was one of the most heartbreaking ones I have ever seen. Not a dry eye in the place, even among people I never could have imagined crying. It felt like part of the heart of the hospital had been ripped away. But on the bright side, he and his wife were surrounded by those they know and love and he did not suffer.

Oh Lauri! I am so very sorry for your loss! It must be really difficult to be the bearer of the bad news for a stranger, let alone for a friend.

Sending hugs and condolences your way!!

I'm so sorry, Lauri. I cannot even begin to imagine what it must cost you emotionally to be the one who makes the diagnosis and delivers the news. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in this terribly difficult time.

Once again, many thanks to my LCT family for your care and hugs. It helps more than you can imagine.

The funeral is today, I know there will be many, many people there who all knew and loved him over his 29 year family practice and 16 year emergency medicine practice. How ironic that he died in the ER that he lead for so many years.

Hugs back to all of you

Lauri,I was away because of the holiday, but please accept my condolences to you. I cannot begin to imagine how hard it must have been to deliver such news, and then to lose someone so close to you.

The funeral was beautiful. Here was a man loved by thousands (no exageration).

He was Catholic by birth.
Presbyterian by faith.
His funeral was in a Baptist church.
His final blessing was by a Jewish friend in Hebrew.

That really summed him up. He loved and accepted everyone. Truly one of the greatest men I will ever meet.

Lauri,

So sorry to hear about this and can't imagine the horrible position you have been placed in to make the diagnosis. All one can wish in these cases is that the person has not suffered much and passes on borne by the love of those who could call him/her family and friend.
