Blizzard at the Beach! White out, can't get off the Island. Snow blowing sideways and COLD. Cabin fever I fear through tomorrow. :( So ready for FUN2 and flying out of this frozen tundra

Suzie, we are stuck at home for a second day. :( We decided it wasn't worth traversing the ice to get to the sales.
Hopefully you are dug out in time for FUN; otherwise, we will have to send in a sled with a team of huskies. ;)

Wow, that's really pretty Suzie. Last pictures I took outside were of my dumpsters gathering snow. We are getting snow maybe just as bad as you.
I ventured out on the roads today, but turned back after about an hour, and will probably miss two very important family events tomorrow on the other side of the Chesapeake Bay because of this damned storm!

We live in the mountains and we are getting no snow - this La Nina weather pattern seems to be totally by-passing New Mexico to the north. Send some snow back our way, please!

WOW: Boston got blasted last night, still lingering, Its very comical to see these huge trucks with plows and chains sliding and getting stuck everywhere and my little chevy colorado with a little snow plow blasting through every snow pile and driving by with no problems,,sometimes I really wish I had a video camera... Need to get out of here and get on the Mariner ASAP.........

It's blue skies and 17 inches of snow in NY. But, our plow guy hasn't come and we are stuck!

All I can say is Thank God this is happening this week and not a week from today. Could you imagine the chaos of trying to get down to Fort Lauderdale for FUN with this weather! I think you'd have quite a few people meeting the ship in Key West!
Right now the forecast for the East coast next weekend is highs back into the 40's and 50's. Keeping our fingers crossed for clear weather for FUN.

I was wondering if there is a way to see where the plane for your flight is coming from before it gets to your airport?

Karen, I've tried before. Boston Logan airport has a list of arrivals. I guess most airports do. If you know your departure gate, then find an arrival at that gate an hour or so before before your departure time. Problem with that is your gate may change. So, this method isn't very reliable. Alice and I were very lucky to make it in yesterday on one of the first flights to arrive in Boston. Our flight from Memphis was cancelled Sunday right. Delta rerouted Alice from Memphis to Atlanta then to Boston on Monday. But, they rerouted me from Memphis to Atlanta to DC to Boston. Then DC to Boston was cancelled and they rerouted me from DC to LGA to Boston. Of course that was going to mean overnight in NYC. Ridiculous. I think that's how it went although every other agent I talked to gave me a different story and the Delta website wouldn't load most of the time. In the meantime, AMEX travel was sending me emails that made no sense. When we checked in at Memphis, an agent at the ticket counter put me on the standby for the Atlanta to Boston flight Alice was on. Within 20 minutes or so, by the time we got through security and wondered around and got to the Delta club, one of my goofy northeast corridor flights was cancelled and I actually got confirmed in first class on ATL-BOS with Alice! We saw at the gate that there were 119 people on the stand by list! I didn't think that flight would go, but it did and everyone clapped when we landed in Boston. Most of those 119 people at the gate on the standby list were not confirmed until Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday even. Not many business travelers in that bunch though. Our gold Delta status saved us. Delta was very good to us yesterday. But the REALLY cool thing was that we saw Mr. Jimmy Carter in the Delta Club! It was so cool! I made it home today on an 8am flight from JFK. My partner is stuck till the 30th (but that is an improvement over his initial offer of a seat for Jan 3rd! His flight yesterday was cancelled but mine today actually left. The hard part was getting TO the airport. Very graphic reminder of why I do not live on NY anymore! Wishing safe travels to anyone still stuck out there. ------------------- Helen

I'm heading up to the beach house tomorrow. Best guess was 24-30 inches of snow (according to next door neighbor). Thankfully, we have electricity. Most of the town is still out. We're still getting reverse 911 calls telling us to stay in our houses and off the roads. The main highway is still largely impassable. The suburb south of Newark registered 32 inches of snow. I'm rethinking the plan to park the car at the airport on the 3rd - who says there will be space, given the piles of snow? Those won't be melting any time soon. Cheers, Anne

WOW, Anne! We didn't get that much snow in Boston. The biggest part of the storm must have gone out to sea before it got all the way up here. We had only about 14" at home. Some drifts were more like 36", but that's typical. I think the "official" total for the city of Boston was 19".
We were worried about getting our car out of the off-site airport parking last night, but it wasn't too bad. For some reason we had not yet put the shovel in the car as we usually do in the winter. But, we managed to stomp down the snow ridge that the plow had made and bust our way out with 4WD. We return to park on 12/31 as we are headed to Orlando pre-FUN2. I think the parking will be ok by then. Good luck on the shore house and airport parking! Can't wait to see you on FUN2!

Thanks, Kim. We are very much looking forward to seeing you, too. I'm definitely taking both the 4WD and the shovel for today's visit. The plow service should have gotten to the driveway by now; getting to the door may be a wholly different matter. My reward for all this? A trip to the dentist at 4. I surely do need a refresher course in how to party.
The deal at Newark Airport proper is: the local kids take the bus to the airport with their shovels. They wait around for people coming out with luggage, then the haggling begins in earnest. For $20 (give or take), you'll be shoveled out in no time. The cars next to you, of course, will bear the brunt of the cleared snow. Cash in and create new demand - you gotta love it.
I plan to call the off-airport parking place we use to see if they are accepting new cars. If not, break out the bubbly and bring on the lounge on wheels!
Cheers, Anne

Cheers, Anne Anne...my daughter flew home to EWR yesterday - their car was in long-term parking. Someone helped them shovel at no-charge. Maybe they looked pretty helpless with two kids in tow, who knows. They had plenty of shoveling to do at home, they live south of Newark in the 32" area!
