Another crate training advocate here - six dogs trained this way and the crate has worked wonderfully for us. We just make sure to give our dogs treats each time they enter the crate, and always change the bedding out so it is fresh.

Not one of them has ever shied away from entering their little "house".

OK< I am sold, at leasst to try crate training. I guess I was fighting it because I am such a softy.
It might be good for my cat, also, since he stays upstairs all the time now, because he is so scared of her.

If the crate is bigger than a dog, try putting an empty shoe box in the crate to cut off the room.
I also put in a tee shirt with my scent to help with the bonding.

Lynne - there are alternatives to the airline crate that do the same thing - known as an ex-pen. Basically they are more open, but, still confine the dog - like a playpen. Enough room for them to stand and turn around. The advantage of the crate is it's like their house. They do get a sense of security from them. I had a cairn terrier about 15 years ago and we had a crate for her from a company called Midwest Homes. It was an open crate that she could see through. I did put a cloth over the top since it was in our bedroom, but, Rosie used it for her bed and loved being in it. Without it, we had housebreaking problems. She went in it on command but also just loved being in it. Slept in it all night - never closed the door to it - one she got the hang of things.

Oh yeh, I agree with Kathy--if you go for a crate, get one that can see her through to adulthood, and make it an open ex-pen. (They are called that I think because they are commonly used at dog shows (exhibitions.)) As Kathy says, you can always throw a towel or blanket over all or part of it for that cave-like feel.

I previously had an aierdale, and while he as my first will always be the favorite, those terriers have a mind of their own.

Diane, my sister in law has a goldendoodle, sweetness must run in their genes as she is the sweetest dog I have ever met.

Before you know it she will be trained and you will have the most wonderful friend in the world. Our dog is going to be 11 and she is such a great companion for me.

We are dog sitting our "grand dog" while the kids are on their honeymoon and that puppy is TROUBLE, so I know how you feel Lynn!

There were 4 I tried to put on, but I cannot get the hang of it. I have asked Ray to put the others on when he has time. He took them when he and Penny came to visit yesterday. They are all great, but I don't want to bore you.

Our thanks to Lynn and Snow White for their fine hospitality
during our visit Tuesday. We enjoyed wrestling with Snow White in her new home and let me assure you, she has a loving staff member to look after her.

Following our introduction to Snow White, we went to a rest. frequented by Youngstown alumni such as Bob Stoops of Oklahoma and Bo Pelini of Nebraska. I enjoyed the memorbilia on the walls of the rest. and took various photos for my Husker internet group.

Following lunch we had a tour of Youngstown before taking Lynn back to Snow White's home where we shook paws and departed with smiles.

Oh, yes, I'm a big Husker Football fan and tomorrow I leave for Nebraska to attend the Nebraska-Missouri game. As circumstance would have it, we arrived in Youngstown early so I stopped in a barber shop to have my ears lowered and who cut my hair....well none other than the barber who cuts the Nebraska's head coach's locks when he's in town.

We enjoy our visits with L.C.T. people as it seems we know each other before we ever meet face-to-face and so when we do get-together, it's like a reunion.
