I worked and lived in Washington, DC this day and we were stunned as news unraveled. Sad, frightened, disbelieving, etc. you name the emotion, it was there. I remember the urge to vommit but couldn't.

I was home from school, 9th grade, sick.

I thought the world was going to come to an end.

Has it really been 42 years? My goodness.

Frances,

I too was home sick from third grade. I was watching "I Married Joan" and "Batchelor Father" on TV when the news bulletins hit. My mother, who worked, came home. We had a lady who lived with us, Verna, who was hysterically crying. My mom was crying. I didn't get the initial impact until my mother explained it. Being a sick kid with only solid news on for three days, I learned a lot. I related to Caroline and John John.

Showing my age now.

I was a junior in college. Had an exam at 1 PM. Hanging around the student union just before & walked into the bookstore to say hi to a friend who worked there. She told me about the shooting. Went on to class, hoping the professor would send us home & forget the exam. I hadn't studied that much the night before. Official word of his death hadn't been released yet. 20 minutes into the exam another professor came in & whisper something in the prof's ear. I think we all knew at that moment, but had to continue with exam. As we finished & left the room there was another prof standing outside the door that would stop us & tell us what had happened.
The weirdiest part of that hour was a cold front blew through between 1 & 2. Went into the class on a warm sunny day. Walked out 1 hour later with clouds & a cold wind blowing and an event it was hard to wrap my mind around.
My age of innocence had come to an end. The prof didn't grade the exams, returned them a week later & gave everyone an "A"

I was also 9. I found out when a woman stopped me in the street as i was riding my bicycle home from school. My birthday party was supposed to be that evening.

I never did have the birthday party. :( I was too young to realize the full impact of what had happened. My parents stayed glued to the tv for 3 days.

I was at work, my boss called me and told me to turn on the radio. Sonja (my daughter) was three months old; I was rocking her and watching television when Jack Ruby shot Oswald.

I was in third grade. No one said anything during the school day, but the neighbor lady who was driving car pool that day told us when she came to pick us up. I remember a boy running along the sidewalk saying "ah, he was a lousy President anyway", and I remember being furious with that boy but not really knowing why I was so angry. I think I still am angry with him.

I was in the 5th grade at St. Bartholmew School in Cincinnati, OH. The entire school was called out into the main hall. We knelt down and prayed for a long time. Later, a TV was wheeled into our classroom and we watched a little bit of it. I think that was the first time we had a TV in our classroom. It was a sad time for us all. I think is was the first time for many of us, that we had a "day to remember."

I was in HS, and sitting in a friend's car as we were leaving the school to go to a HS football game as aband member. When I heard the news come across the radio, I ran into the school office to tell them what happened. I was told that I shouldn't joke about things like that.

A couple of hours later, the football game went on - with the players on both teams being unaware.
Most of us thought the game should not have been played. And how ironic - the school we played was LINCOLN high school.

The beginning of the End of Innocence.

I was at work, and one of the wives of the guys in the shop called hysterical and needed to talk to her husband, thought something had happened to one of their kids - he came into the office and said turn on the the TV - in the front office we had one TV in the Owners office - we did - I still get stunned when I think about that to this day!!! It seems like only a few years ago!

I was in the 5th grade. We were getting ready to go home and the nun came and said to get up and that we had to pray for President Kennedy that had been shot! What a horrible day!

I was in my Physics class Sr. year in High School, and the head of school nnounced it and school was closed immediately. Very strange how they got all the busses there. For the next few days I was glued to the TV. Jackie was my idol back then.

I was in Jr. High, sitting in my Social Studies class, when our teacher was called out of the classroom. He returned a few moments later, tears in his eyes and trying to compose himself, to share this tragic and horrific story with all of his students. We were devastated and most of us were crying. It is a day that I will never forget. My family and I spent endless hours watching t.v. in total disbelief that such a thing could happen to our beloved President Kennedy.

Forty-two years ago! Seems like it was yesterday.

I was in second grade. The teacher was crying. The principal came on the loudspeaker and told us "our President" has been killed in Texas. We were all quiet and put our heads down on our desks.

Here is the "outside of the US" perspective: I wasn't even born yet, but my mom always remembers this day...she was about 14 years old and they were celebrating a cousin's birthay in Guatemala...someone ran in and said "They shot and killed Presidente Kennedy in Dallas..." they all ran to my mom's house (which was the only one on the block with a TV back then), my mom said you could hear a pin drop as they watched the news reports...needless to say, her cousins party came to an abrupt stop.

I was at home in Montgomery County, Maryland just outside of the District. I had put my infant daughter in for a nap and turned on the CBS soap opera when they broke in to say the President had been shot. I tried to call my husband but so many people were calling others that all the phone lines were jammed, and I couldn't get a dial tone. That is something that had never happened before and hasn't happened to my knowledge since.
