Does anyone have the name of a good private guide or tour servuce in Dubrovnik?

It's an easy city to do on your own with a good guide book. We walked the wall and then ducked into a few of the many churches. It's a very scenic city.


Google tour guides for Dubrovnik and you'll probably get some names.

Dubrovnik is one of my very very favorite ports. I've been there 3 times and enjoyed it each time. As Ted said it is a very easy city to do on your own.... unless you want lots of "guide talk." Each time we've been there we have just walked around, into the cathedrals and through the streets and of course the wall. The wall is quite a long walk if you do it in its entirity, but has such beautiful views of the city and the ocean. If I remember correctly about halfway through there is s place where you can go back down and not walk the entire wall. I think it has become a bit more touristy over the years but it still retains its charm. If you are on Regent they have tours that go up into the hills around the city, but I've never done that as I just so much enjoy the city itself. Also, when you are sailing in, remember to be up on deck and looking to the right towards the countryside for the "welcome" the Nuns will give the ship. Very special.

The "nuns" also do a farewell as you leave in case you miss the sailing in.

Agree with Arlene and Ted, so easy to just walk around on your own, do the wall, wander up and down the little side streets, walk around the main square area and in and out of shops, churches, etc. The views from the wall are spectacular and constantly changing as you walk around it. I didn't think I would do the whole thing, there is an opt out about 1/2 way, but I did do it and was so glad that I did.

One of my more memorable ports. We went to the synagogue in the old city. We met people from around the world who came to pay their respect. There were a lot of WW2 historical items and treasures there. And the Rabbi was from Houston Texas.

Thanks everybody for your suggestions. Unfortunately my husband has diabetes and can't do long walks. Is there any sightseeing that can be done by car?

I am leaving this afternoon and once aboard Azamara will be stopping for 2 days in Dubrovnik. I have booked a private tour to the countryside and Cavtat for the second day. I am using a broker/middle man "Private shore tours". We have used them in the past and been quite pleased with the guides they have arranged for us. I will get a card from the guide we get and post the info when I get back, if thats not too late for you.

Hi Donna! We are back from our Azamara trip. Our day in Cavtat was just great. A truly lovely excursion. Unfortunately the guide did not have (or was not allowed to give me) her card. You can contact Private Shore Trips and tell Steven that you want to book this day and have "Dee" as your guide. She was a beautiful 20something native who fled the country during the war with her mother and sister. Her English is perfect. She works in tourism and teaches dance to sustain herself.We went to a typical country home and had locally made wine and cheese. We went to a park with water wheels and had a local man show us how they ground grains into flour. It had been raining just prior to our arrival so the rivers were stunningly aggressive. On our trip back to town, we also saw the devastation left by the civil war out in the countryside. I recommend it highly. Let me know if you need anything else.
