I was shocked today when my TA tried to get us hotel rooms in Nice at the Le Grimaldi and the Beau Rivage. Most hotels are full. Got rejected at several Paris hotels also and the Grand Bretagne in Athens has no rooms with 2 beds. What is going on? This is for May 2007.

Anyone have any suggestions for Nice?? Would like to be close to the old town if possible.

Also need a centrally located hotel in Athens.

Would appreciate any suggestions -- Thanks, Jan

WEird! We were planning on returning to the Beau Rivage pre-cruise this October, but it is closed for "remodeling" (which seems strange since it seemed to be in great shape last September). We're staying at the Chateau Eza in Eze instead, but that doesn't meet your old town Nice requirement.

In Athens we're staying at the Athens Hilton which is centrally located (if you can figure out where the center of Athens is!). At least you can easily check availability there through hilton.com. Great deal this year on Hilton points (25k/night), but the category has gone up and it is now 35k/night if you go that route.

It could be the Grand Prix? They were tearing everything down the first week of June this year.

The Gran Prix is May 23-28th this year. Right before that is the Cannes Film Festival.

We had problems a year and a half ago right at the start of qualifying rounds of the Gran Prix. Thankfully, we did get a couple of rooms at the Beau Rivage.

I would get on tripadvisor.com, plug in your dates and look at the ratings and location and see what you can get.

Jan, I have stayed three times at LaPerouse, and loved it. It is maybe a five minute walk to Old Nice, almost right next door to that elevator that takes you to the top of the park over Nice. Do take it if you can come in a day early! Small hotel, right around the corner to where the ship docks in Nice (but you would need a cab) It is not a fancy "city" hotel and is up the hill from the city, with beautiful views over the sea. Tiny lobby, rooms are floors above. Very nice little casual restaurant with outdoor tables. I love it!

Thanks All for the help. We managed to get rooms at "La Perouse" and I'm sure it will be great. One more time you came to the rescue. 8 mos. out you'd never dream of such a problem.

Jan
