Is there any serious interest in this trip? Have asked Ngaire if she was willing and able! I think she is, in a simplifiled version from #2, which was complicated beyond belief!

Just wondering who might be interested in going as a group to the camps. The other side trips can be arranged on your own or with Ngaire's or KD's help. On the first two ROAR's, we reserved a couple of years in advance. Please don't say you're interested if it is just a notion in your mind, looking here for those who are a GO!

We loved ROAR 2 and are definitely interested in ROAR 3, depending on the dates (September is a very convenient time for us to travel).

We'd only want to do the game lodges (2 or 3 would be great) and we'd skip Cape Town or J'berg.

Interested definitely. Like Andrea and Leonard..only game parks...interested in a couple...would like to spend quality time there and really enjoy them. I feel we get there and leave. They are spectacular places to just relax. Would love to return to Lion Sands again. What a class act!

We've already told Ngaire that we're interested. Returning to Lion Sands is a must for us. Not interested in Cape Town or J'berg. Would consider Birkenhead House or their property in the wine country as to "rest and relax" after the rigors of safari. :)

Carol and I are a definite go for the next ROAR. Ngaire is aware of our interest, committment to ROAR 3 . Some time in 2011 I suspect. Would pass on Capetown as we have done that. Interested in wine country time. Not sure if before or after is best, leave that up to how all works out. Also interested in quality time at the game parks. We liked Lion Sands but really liked Leopard Hills. Game was great. I think we just put our selves in Ngaire's hands and all will work out very well. It will be interesting to see Ngaire's reaction to the new Seasons in Africa camp.

Ralph, I strongly recommend a trip along the Garden Route and then a stop in Oudtshoorn. The Little Karoo and the drive to Cape Town were amazing. Next time, I would like to drive across some of the smaller mountain passes in the Swartberg Mountains. Still, in our three day trip, I did get to cross some nice mountains. Instead of ending in Cape Town, you can just as easily (actually easier) end in wine country.

O, Don & I never pass up a ROAR to So. Africa. Editing: PREFER the game camps...... (But, it's hard to pass up the wine country.and..Birkenhead House or La Residence. Marc is right about that drive - we did part of the Little Karoo to wine country on the original ROAR.)

I am interested, particularly the game camps. Will be doing Capetown on my own this November. Hope some of these camps don't change their single supplement policy.

Will report on La Residence and Franschhoek during our trip or shortly after our return from S. Africa. I've already made reservations for all our our meals in Franschhoek as it is supposed to have the best restaurants in S. Africa. In fact, one of the restaurants--Le Quartier Français (The Tasting Room)--is on some lists as the best restaurant in Africa/the Middle East and one of the 50 best restaurants in the world. Here's a link to sample Menus . And to make it even better, remember that food (as opposed to lodging) is relatively inexpensive in S. Africa, especially right now with 9 rands to the dollar.

Eugene, I will be interested in your take on La Residence! I was intrigued during our brief visit there on ROAR 2, particularly with the town, which seems far more interesting for browsing or dining than Hermanus. I believe we were told that something like 7 of the top 10 restaurants in Africa are located in Frank"town". It was lovely just to drive through! Hard to give up a 3rd visit to Birkenhead House, however.

Hmmm ... hate to break my string of ROAR trips. I assume we are talking April or September again? Must think about pre- and post-ROAR adventures for Gary.

Marcie, that's a thought, but it would limit the time frame available, since the ships only do that 23 day crossing in late November.

And November isn't prime game-viewing time, either.

In Sabi Sabi (GAME/SAMBA) we saw the Big 5 the first day, and again the next day...Nov. seemed like excellent time of year for us (only other time of year we've done safari's is January so don't have as much comparison as others). Well, it was just a thought anyway.

I think Bert and I will wait for ROAR4. Most of you still have a head start on us and we have some other palces we want to see before we start repeating. We also saw the entire Big 5 on our first game drive in Leopard Hills-

We are in already for ROAR 3 in 2011.Ngaire is also aware of our interest. We are interested in a few days at Birkenhead and a few in La Residense.In between 4 to 5 days at Leopard Hills and another camp.....No Joberg or Capetown this go around.

We're GAME for anything

Pretty hard to put the game camps "in between" visits at Birkenhead and La Residence, as both of those are down south nearer Cape Town and the wine country. I'd love to go back to both of those for a few days each as well and then head back to J'Berg to get to the camps.

How is April time slot for safari's ?
Since we did September last time would like to try opposite time....any suggestions?

Based on one data point, I would say that April is a fantastic time for a safari. A little cool in morning but not too bad plus you get to sleep in a half hour. :D

Carol and I have expressed interest in the April time frame as we also did Sept. last time and thought it might be interesting to see the country at a different time. Also interested in La Residence so we can sample the fine dining in the French Hook.(sp). I want to remember that La Residence is all inclusive so Ngaire will need to work out something. While not a must, we would revisit Birkenhead. Birkenhead and La Residence are owned by the same people, I think. That might result in some savings by doing both. Ngaire will not steer us wrong. Interested in her comments on Djuma and Samara. While it is a long way off it is great fun to start to dream and plan.

Let me tell you, that extra half hour's sleep adds up over the course of several days! We were happy both times, the animals seemed easier to spot in September, but for ROAR1 the grass had stayed higher that particular year. I think.

We loved ROAR1--it was one of our very favorite trips. The only way we'd sign up for another ROAR,though would be if we could sail home. I just don't think I can tolerate that looooooooong flight both ways--it nearly did me in the last time. :(

September or April work for us. We're also very interested to hear about Ngaire's time at Samara. I was looking over their website last night and the scenery is stunning and quite different from what we saw during ROAR 2. http://www.samara.co.za/

Len and I may also look into doing a post-safari trip to one of Mozambique's beaches.

If you are going to Mozambique, how about also stopping in Swaziland, you can go overland. A side trip to Lesotho might also be interesting.

Is anyone else interested in returning home by ship? That, of course, could not be organized until the Regent 2011 schedules are out to determine dates. Could be a GAME 2 in the works pre-cruise like last November.

For now, seems like a spring 2011 trip is the preference for a land-only ROAR 3.

In April 2010 the Voyager does crossing from Cape Town to FLL...guess we'll need to wait and see what the 2011 WC schedule looks like.

Unfortunately, that 2010 cruise (CPT-FLL) begins Dec 3rd, runs through Xmas, reaching FLL January 4th (2011).

The Voyager goes from Cape Town to Ft. Lauderdale April 15, 2010 and arrives in FLL on May 12....27 nights. It's the last leg of the WC. Who knows what Regent will do in SA in 2011 ???

Interesting; Voyager does Cape Town to FLL in April, and Mariner does it (with different ports) in December.

Looks like all things are possible if the 2011 WC comes that way again!

For some reason we really prefer a Safari only trip...perhaps its due to the fact there is less rush.....now if Regent could have a ship waiting for us till our 2-3 week land portion was over???

Either ship, whichever ports, sounds good to me. Now if I could only learn to read existing posts thoroughly!

Pat, we are with you in prefering safari only. The flight is tough, but not a killer and we want to spend as much time as possible in S. Africa.
