Here's a bit more info from David, who's great grandfather, by the way, was on the Titanic and lived to talk about it!! Maybe we can get him to tell us the story!

Quote
We can have the webcam on you pretty much all the time... if Mariner ties-up where she usually does. One of the closer berths. However, at that range even our 26x zoom won't pick out the color of your cocktail umbrellas!

The smaller ships zip out at quite a pace compared to the lumbering giants who are no slouches either. Sometimes the best angle to catch a group is on approach to the inlet channel and then on exit from the channel. In the channel is closest to the cam but the speed of the ship at that range can blur the images. If Lou is doing handheld shots with his Nikon then he can adjust accordingly but the webcam isn't that flexible. Exit also has the sunlight advantage... heading east, sun settng in west, not shooting into the sun, etc.

Wow, we were on the ship that day on our way around South America, but we were probably watching from inside our cabin because it was really cold outside when we sailed.

I just received the latest brochure from Regent in the mail and there is a big red "sold out" stamped on our itinerary. I thought the ship still had lots of space!

Hi Everyone,

We are new to LCT as well as to Regent, and have just booked the last two available cabins on this cruise (with another couple). If anyone has any words of wisdom regarding Regent and what to expect, please feel free to pass them on. We have cruised many times in the past, but not with a luxury line, so are very excited to be doing this now.

Mike and Tami (cabin #1102)

Hi Mike and Tami! I think you are going to LOVE the Mariner as your first luxury line, you may be spoiled from then on ;)
I will add you to our roll call and I am glad you got the last two cabins!

Any questions, just ask and if you would like an avatar under your name, feel free to send me a picture and I would be happy to do it for you.

Thanks so much Karen. I tried to get a picture put on my profile, but the only ones I have on the web are on Facebook, and the address was apparently too long to work here. If I email you a photo will you be able to add it? Or do you need my Facebook address to use? Sorry for the dumb questions...I am computer challenged, it seems.

You can either email me the picture or add me (Karen Stanek) as your facebook friend and I tell me which one you want to use and I can download it from there.

Welcome Tami and don't worry Karen is a guru with getting avitars on. Just email her a photo and wala it will appear.

I took a hold today for what is apparently the very last cabin for some clients, the Grand Suite. Don't know if they will go, but we will see.

See you onboard, its going to be a really great trip.

Thanks Karen and JoAnn. I've emailed a photo to Karen, but hope it isn't too large for her to use. I've given up on understanding how to post anything other than just regular typing on these forums!

You are right...the Grand Suite was available when we called. It was just a little more than we wanted to pay, so we snatched up the Penthouse suites instead. I think we'll be happy regardless of where we are.

I did email it (it is in my sent folder), but it is over 4MB, so that might be the problem. Let me see if I can save it as a smaller file and send that to you.

Karen, you are awesome!! Thanks so much for "fixing" my picture.

If I could impose on you one more time, could you please add Jack and Freda, in cabin 1103, to the list of cruisers? They're our friends who are traveling with us.

Thanks again,

Tami

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. We are very excited. I booked our shore excursions last night, and, thanks to a lot of the info I got from here, I think we picked some good ones (unfortunately, the one in Belize that shoots you out of the cave was full, so we're cave tubing instead!!). Cozumel sounds like it will be a nightmare with all the ships in port...hopefully the speed boat escape will keep us out of the crowds.

Now I just have to figure out plane tickets, book a hotel for something less than my right arm and left leg, figure out the butler request form, and go shopping for new clothes (as I simply must have new duds for this luxury cruise!!). Ah, the hassles we go through for these cruises.

Um, I have a really stupid question. It seems that all the cruises are named for something. I can see how "FUN" would stand on it's own, but is it an acronym for something?

Tami, all of the escorted cruises get named and the non escorted with 10 (I think!) or more LCTers can be named as well.
We have contests to name the cruise and the winner gets a virtual tea pot. Here is an example of entering names for a contest

Here is the list of acronyms for 2010

And to answer your question, this cruise is acually FUN2, and we didn't have a contest to name it as our buddy Ralph suggested FUN2.
It was named after another big LCT cruise, the original FUN. This is so confusing but FUN2 started out on the Navigator but when the bargain for the Mariner was announced, we all jumped ship to the Mariner.
I think FUN originally stood for Fun Upon the Navigator or something like that.

OHHH, that makes sense now. I simply could not come up with a word that began with "N". I had "Fantastic, Unbelievable...NUTS"?? Or "Nonsense". But nothing sounded right...until you explained that they changed ships.

I can't wait to meet you, and talk about "hiring" you as our travel agent. We live in Po-Dunk-Ville, Nevada and don't have access to any honest to goodness travel agents. Would love to finally meet someone who can keep my need for vacations satisfied!!

Joanna, congrats on winning that teapot. And it really does make more sense with the Navigator than the Mariner (FUM???).

I am so excited to meet everyone. This is honestly the warmest welcome I have ever gotten anywhere. I feel so sorry for my husband, though. He is such a wonderful guy, that all I have to do is bat my eyes at him and tell him I'm depressed and need another vacation, and he agrees to it. Seriously. I guess I'm spending my kids' inheritance...but the way things are going, the taxes will be so much they won't be able to afford whatever we leave them anyway. Hey, it's my story and I'm sticking to it!!

Tami, welcome to LTC. I live in small city Texas and had the same problem. You will love this group, everyone I have met is great and I now have many good friends.

I just wait until my husband is out of town on business and call him and say LTC is going on a great trip and I want to go. He too cannot say no.

Oh, dear, I have a feeling what my husband will be batting at me will NOT be his eyes, but that is probably a discussion best left for after a couple of drinks at one of the bars!!!

I am so glad to have found this group, and to have found Karen and B&K. It sounds like this trip truly was one of those "meant to be" moments.
