Can someone tell me the names of the cruise directors on each of the Regent ships? Are they actively involved with the guests? Who are the favorites and why?

Thanks!

Jamie alternates with John on Voyager. Both excellent. Interact with guests frequently. Both lead many activities. Barry is alternating with ??? on Mariner (John has been on Mariner in past). Barry is the best of all CDs. He doesn't host as many activities but he is omnipresent and always interacting with guest. Sam and Giuseppe have been on Navigator. Giuseppe is a favorite of the women. I understand that Paul will be taking over for Sam since he is leaving. I don't know how Paul will do as CD; he was wonderful as Assistant on our last cruise.

Sam was great on our Christmas cruise on Navigator last year. At that time, Giuseppe was Hotel Director and not as involved in activities. He is a great guy, too. Sorry don't know about any of the others as have only been on Navigator.

Which ship are you going on and we may be more helpful. John Barron is on the Voyager right now until mid September and he is absolutely WONDERFUL!

Sorry Sue! John has much bigger fish to fry as his first child "Luke" is due Sept. 24th. He's hoping Lynsay doesn't deliver early!

The cruise directors are so very different. Quoting one: Jamie is very gamy and has many different games going on. Barry is not gamy but into entertainment, Hollywood and English royalty. Whether one is better than the other is an opinion. Both are very involved with guests. It depends on what you want as to which you prefer.

Thanks for responding. Haven't decided which ship. Probably the Voyager. Might see if there's anything available for the 08 WC. The CD can make or break a cruise.

Seadays,
I'm not sure which segments are still open for the '08 WC but I'd sure look into it NOW...don't wait. I'm almost sure there's room left on the final crossing from Athens to FLL (April 13-30). Jamie will be the CD on the entire WC. He and his Hostess wife Dana are always fun. Jamie is very experienced, quick & witty.

Besides Seadays, Marcie and Tom are on that segment, hopefully I have that right and you couldn't cruise with nicer people in the world.

So Marcie - do you think Jamie will be back on by CROSS? Captain Dag? I know you don't actually know, but wondered if from your experiences you had some idea when they would come back from their vacations.

Marcie, do you know if Jamie and Dana will be on the Voyager Dec 21- Jan 6....right before the world cruise begins. We get off in San Francisco and the world cruisers get on. Would love to have them onboard over the holidays they were terrific on last years holiday cruise.

Doris,

This isn't Marcie, but I did speak with Dana and she mentioned they would be back for the holidays. (she told me this during the FJORDS cruise last month) However, I know schedules do change so I would be cautiously optimistic! They are a really fun couple and terrific in their jobs.

Cheers, Pam

Thanks all!

We have been dragging our feet and have been slow to make plans. I guess we better get in gear if we want to make at least a part of the WC.

Is the WC as much fun as it sounds like or do you get tired of being on the ship that long?

Yes, the WC is absolutely wonderful!! We never got tired of being on the ship for so long. Every day is like Christmas!

There are many of us here on LCT who have been on Regent's full WC...Peggy, Ardis, Elaine, Betty, Larry, Debbie, (and more) and MANY MANY other LCTers who if not on the full WC, many of the segments.

I think they would agree with me....it is a wonderful experience. If at all possible, you really should try it and see for yourself how much fun it is living on the Voyager for 4 months! Those 4 months really fly by so quickly!

Thanks Pam, having them on board again would really be fun.

Seadays, we have been on the world cruise twice each time for one segment and it is fabulous!! We can't wait to do the entire cruise. We are waitlisted for one segment for this years cruise and have our fingers crossed.

Seadays, do it, do it! We've sailed on two segments of the WC (2004). There's just something special about a WC. Regent pulls out all the stops. However, if I were sailing a segment, I wouldn't want it to be the last one. By then, the thrill is over for the WC'ers and they're thinking about going home and celebrating a last time or two with other Wc'ers. I don't think there would be as much interaction as on the earlier segments. Just my opinion.

Each CD has their own style but I think most cruisers who have cruised with John would agree that he is one of the BEST in the entire industry... high energy, witty, talented and a real asset to Regent.

Well, even though I've only been on 2 Regent cruises, I have been on many cruises on other lines, and John is absolutly the best CD I have ever met. It was great to see him again in Norway, even if it was only for a couple of days.

Just my 2 cents, in support of John and Lynsay. We've found them to be charming, engaging, and very professional. Great CD. Pleasure to cruise with.
cheer

Yes, the World Cruise is wonderful BUT most cruises are! Let's not put the WC on a pedestal and perhaps put hopes unreasonably high. A cruise is what you make of it and no more. There were some "different" events such as the truck stop dinner but most "special" events were quite ordinary. It was a bit of a let down. Let's also consider that with so very many full world cruisers it is next to impossible to make "special" events really special. To us, it is still the itinerary that is the most important. We have booked WC 2008 mainly because of the Myanmar stop and are eagerly looking forward to visiting Bagan.

Ardis, I've been on many 14-21 day cruises and I still say our two segments of the WC were more special. The lecturers were better as well as the entertainment. With the profit Regent makes from a WC, it makes sense that they would put the best of everything on the WC.

Of course, we all have different reasons for taking cruises. I like the "community" that happens on a WC where people know that they are going to be together for a long time and make an effort to meet each other. I like interacting with people. It's part of the reason I cruise. Of course, we're all different and not everyone feels that way.

I also like the excitement of a WC. When we left Los Angeles, the atmosphere was absolutely electric as we sailed out of the harbor.

I probably need to post a "warning statement" underneath my name here. Positive, enthusiastic, optimistic poster, reader beware. :D

John and Lyndsay are incredibly talented and very professional - we have loved cruising with them and he is one the best CD's - we loved catching a glimpse of him on Fjords - seeing them on past trips has been icing on the cake for us!

I agree with you Donna, our two expierences on world cruise segments were very different than the other trips we have made on the Voyager.

Everything seemed a little more over the top..

We love cruising on the Voyager and will be onboard again for the Holiday cruise. Last year it was lots of fun, but not quite like the world cruise.

We have our fingers crossed for a suite this year on a segment of the world cruise, we are hooked!

We have sailed with both Barry and with John/Lyndsay (yay, baby on the way!) and we have immensely enjoyed them... In fact we remember John when he was not a CD and we were so happy for him when we found out he had been promoted. He's perfect for the job (and Lyndsay too!).

I just love it, Donna. You are always so upbeat and positive. It is a lot of fun to read your posts. I can still see you sitting on the balcony on FJORDS. I would have been freezing! But YOU had a smile on your face.....

Donna: Thank you for your comments. Yes, the sense of community is very different and it was great getting to know people in more depth than is usual on a shorter cruise. When you were doing your log, I enjoyed reading it so much. I'm glad that Regent is providing something for everyone.
