So with the 1st post drydock cruise of the Voyager being cancelled due to some propulsion problem, what do you all think the odds are for SAND being cancelled due to some unforseen snafu??

The Navigator hasn't had the pod issues that Voyager and Mariner have had - it did have a minor vibration - it's a different build. I also think that Regent can't afford to do that to two ships on top of hte Mariner issues of this year - and now Voyager being delayed. Probably wise to delay Voyager - it's due for the World Cruise next month - Regent's best repeat customers will be on board

Somewhere in another thread I think someone mentioned that Navigator doesn't have pods. But let's keep our fingers crossed, SANDYs. If they cancelled this, I guess we spend a week in Florida instead!

If the Navigator Drydock were extended, we'd cancel and opt to stay home. It's our busy season at work and we have no assistant to man the office. We hired someone and she doesn't start until we get back. I will need to make daily phone calls and be on email for some of the cruise.

Well the Voyager is in port that day and it should be fixed. Or, there is time for us to fly to Barbados and catch the 12/12 Silver Shadow and sail with Kristen and Greg and Jeff and Sue!

Or go to Nordstom and spend that $200!!! LOL

I doubt very much if this would happen.

I looked at the schedule, and if I'm reading it right, the cancelled Voyager cruise is a 4-day. As Marc said, he was warned it might be cancelled. It almost looks like they scheduled it this way as a contingency. Too bad for the people booked on it, but I doubt if we need to worry about Navigator.

Since we booked our own air, and we both need a holiday desperately, I think we would just rent a car in Florida and be tourists--haven't been back to Florida for over 10 years, but I actually really like parts of Florida quite alot.

Wendy you are correct about the pods. Even though the Navigator was built in the same T. Mariotti shipyard as the Voyager, it was built in 1999 and does not have the Dolphin pod propulsion system that the Voyager has. The Mariner was built in a different shipyard in France (same shipyard that built the much troubled Celebrity M class ships), and has the Mermaid pod propulsion system instead of the Dolphin pod system.

Here is an issue that I have heard about the Navigator that I think deserves researching. When we get onboard, we need to line up all our drinks and see if the ship really does list starboard! Then after a few drinks we can see which way WE list! LOL <img border="0" alt="[beer]" title="" src="graemlins/beer.gif" />

If they cancel SAND (shudder), then we will have to do the experiment involving drinks and/or us listing one way or the other in the hotel bar or by its swimming pool.

On our next cruise, then, to verify our results we will have to replicate the experiment changing one variable: on a ship instead of on land at the hotel.

This is the core of the scientific method: always repeat important experiments like this many many times. This is one of the reasons why I became a physicist!

Good - David ! We'll have all kinds of interesting professional opinions on this one, huh? We'll have the programmer to find a way for software to do it, An accountant to tell us how much it costs to do it, a CPA to tell us how much tax we owe for doing it, A travel agent to sell us where to do it, a Real Estate Broker to provide housing for us...a mother or two to nag us about doing it the right way....I'd better quit while I'm ahead..

Tina, Delta Crown room is a lounge for biz and higher pax on Delta, or those who have paid for this service through a membership. It is not going to take anything away from your cruise! Have a great one!

Tina: Definitely not a make or break deal - if you have several hr layover it is nice... many people PAY for the "luxury" ...if you hold biz tixs you are "in" or a Delta very FF flyer - do not give it another thought -

All of you with the real Platinum American Express Card can get into Delta, Continental, and Northwest clubs on date of flight as long as you are flying on those airlines (not code shared onto another airlines' "metal"). However, if you are flying first class domestically, you cannot get into the Delta Crown Room (don't know about the other two) without either having a membership or the aforementioned card; only international Business Elite passengers automatically qualify for entrance at domestic clubs.

The Delta Club Room is a nice lounge but it's quieter, with usually plush seatings, deluxe bathrooms, an open bar, some snacks - Fruit, cookies, magazines, newpapers, and television usually running CNN. I think internet access (I don't need to use it in the airport usually) and in LA they have a putting green.

Since we're using FF miles into FLL, we're flying 1st class, but, we also use AMEX Platnium. That card has some really nice perks - We get $300. on board credit as well on Regent among many other things like prefered seating at concerts and theater. We try to fly Delta so that we have the benefit of using the lounge when we do fly. I can already feel that massage - it's how I am spending my onboard credit!!

Internet access in Delta's Crown Rooms are via T-Mobile paid access only - even on the desktop that they recently installed.

I just spoke with RSSC and the Navigator is having a significant refurbishing to the rooms (bedding, TVs, etc).

Can't wait.....

Tina...did you hear anything on Voyager? It was my understanding this 10 day drydock was also for new carpeting, bedding and tv's. Maybe that will change with the cancellation of back to back sailings for the pod issue??

I asked about Voyager and apparently they are still planning to go on Dec 11 although they are trying to rebook the Nov 30 and Dec 4 folks on this and the Dec 18 cruises. The Voyager has also been extensively refurbished and he mentioned there was a mechanical issue for which they had been waiting on parts to arrive.

Tina, there is some scuttlebutt on the other board that the Navigator may be cancelled too. I very much doubt it but did you get any reassurances from Regent that it won't be cancelled?

Tina, I am one of the many that are now booked on 12-11. If this cancels out as well, I will get full refund and go back to dreaming of my 1st ever cruise.

People over there are jumping ship on the Voyager thinking that the 12/11 sailing for VOYAGER could be cancelled. No official word on 12/11 - just 11/30 and 12/4.

Not the Navigator, but, if so, then I would guess we could be on a sold out ship.

Kathy, I said that earlier tonight while having dinner with Diana, that we may very well be looking at filling our ship with those displaced on the Voyager cancellations.

Can't see any issues with the Navigator as it does not use the same pod propulsion system that the Voyager uses.

I've been thinking the same thing, that the cancellations on the Voyager, maybe creating a full ship on the Navigator for SAND.

Betty, even a full ship though is still only 490 people. After being on some mega ships with well over 2000 people onboard this will still be a breeze! See you soon!

Betty, I didn't think you were complaining! I guess I'm the one that was concerned with more crowds and am trying to convince myself that it will be alright! We like smaller! Our last cruise had a little over 200 people onboard, but then it was about 1/2 the size of the Navigator.

Don,

I've been twice on the Navigator - once full and once about 300 pax. Hardly noticed a difference. Almost too quiet for me. Very spacious ship and the layout is such you can meet someone on day one and never see them again even if you tried!
