Hi - I am a first time poster and am seeking your opinion as to booking a cruise just prior to the ship's drydock. Do you think the cruise will be lessen? This will be our first time with Radisson (taking it up a notch from the deluxe suites of HAL) and are considering the Navigator in November for 11 nights. Thank you in advance.
Amber
PS - this is a fabulous board.

Hi Amber and welcome!! I have been on a cruise right before drydock and didn't notice anything that would make me think I should of waited to cruise until after the ship had been refurbished.
I don't know what the Navigator is having done during drydock but I think someone mentioned new mattresses?

Actually we were told the mattresses are being changed in March of this year, so that shouldn't be a problem.
My only concern would be things like the toilets going out, like they did 4 x during our cruise...of course they had them fixed within an hour each time.

The toilet problem reminds me of our cruise, years ago,on the Mississippi Queen. She was new enough so come crew members were still talking about the shakedown cruise. Seems there was an design problem with the toilets. When too many were flushed at the same time,ALL the toilets on the ship flushed themselves. I wonder if the boat lifted out of the river with all that aquatic action?

BTW: a problem with the Navigator "listing" has been mentioned in several recent posts here and elsewhere. This appears to be a problem that has developed rather recently, as this ship didn't "list" when we last cruised on her a couple of years ago.
Does anybody know if that will be addressed in dry dock?
Thanks, Richard

On our 1/27 cruise there was listing - although we were told by crew that this was deliberate to minimize the impact of the rough seas we were experiencing (and they were indeed rough for two days when we were at sea). By steering at a slight angle, there was less impact of the bow (and stern) going up and down in heavy swells according to one of the officers.
We were anchored two days - no listing. And, when sailing in calm waters, no listing. I'm wondering if there is really a problem at all?
