Hi All,
I've never been much for mixed drinks, prefer good wines, belgian ales, an occasional scotch etc. But on a caribbean cruise I feel obligated to partake in a few umbrella drinks. I know little about them, other than the typical pina coladas, etc. I did try a "Lemon Drop" martini this weekend as research for the upcoming cruise, pretty tasty (in a teeniebopper sort of way) .
On Mariner, what's good? Any of the bars/bartenders better than others for mixed drinks?
Any of the bars specialize in good wines or beers?
Thanks,
Ragnar "hiccup" D.

Ragnar,
The official unofficial LCT drink is a Grey Goose Cosmopolitan. If you google Todd's Cosmopolitan you will find the recipe or search LCT for Cosmo. We've had a thread or two about libations.

Hiccup: I don't like sweet drinks at all including cosmos - have had great Mojitos on Mariner/Voyager and not so great - depends on bartender - not much help I know

In doing the search of older threads, I see a common complaint that the bartenders may not have a wide repertoire. Is this impression accurate, or just a result of my skimming the posts?
(I liked the looks of the "Lava Flow"...)

I never think of cosmos as being umbrella drinks. I've never been on a caribbean cruise, but spent many vacations on several of the islands. My all time favorite is a Planter's Punch. I think they taste best with Appleton's Rum, but after a few, any ol' rum will do.

The bartenders on Navigator were all good at chocotini's last year. I'll check them out again next week, and let you know.

Try a blended Midori Margarita. We had them on our last sailing and they were excellent.

On MUSH, the cruise director introduced me to the "metropolitan". Like a cosmo but made with raspberry vodka. Yummy!!

Gotta say that the Mai Tai's here on the WC are pretty gol dang good. It's normally something I only drink in Hawaii, cuz elsewhere they just aren't right. It would likely have been best if I had NOT discovered how good they are here!

...off on a tangent....this isn't a ship drink, but has anyone ever had a "painkiller"?? I am not much for mixed drinks either, but I sure enjoyed that drink more than Tylenol!! They are made at Foxy's on Jost Van Dyke in the Caribbean. I also don't think they are what you might consider an"umbrella drink", unless you plan on wearing the umbrella like a lampshade!! :pass: :D
Sorry to depart from the actual question.... :)
