I am going shopping this weekend for daytime clothes for 007, (mid October around the Med) I really am not sure what to buy for daytime activities on shore. Is it too cold for t shirts? Should I pack lots of sweatshirts? Too cold for long shorts?

Neither one of us are jacket wearers, we go from t shirts to hoodies in the fall to snow board jackets in the winter for casual wear.

Hoodies?? Jackets??? Sorry, Karen, I've lived in South Florida waaay too long to remember those articles of clothing! :banana:

Karen, we were in the Western Med at the end of September one year and it was hot--especially in Italy. Barcelona and Monte Carlo were just pleasantly warm--t-shirt weather. Another year we were again in Italy and further east (Athens, Kusadasi) in October and it was still really warm--but that year we had rain a few days so it was a little cooler those days (like long-sleeve T-shirt weather). I'd say, pack for warm weather, but have a sweater or sweatshirt for evenings/contingencies and raingear in case you hit a storm.

The end of October is supposed to be the rainy season for So. of France.. so we are praying for none of that..

My yellow slicker with hood I took to Ireland??? - I have not even begun to think about the clothes deal Karen - glad you asked - we were in med in early sept 2003 and it was warm - not hot but shorts and short sleeved tops etc - hoping it'll be about 72 - we are having a very hot Florida summer with high humidity -

Karen, did you do a "history" check on weatherunderground to see what average temps are in October for this part of Europe? I've never brought a slicker along, just an umbrella, sweatshirt and a light jacket. My most trusted friend to fight off a chill is to take a pashmina along in my excursion bag. As long as I can wrap that thing around my neck, I do just fine. My winter scarf was a life saver in Iceland, but I know we won't have 40's where we are going!

Olivia, I just checked and it appears last year averaged around 70 degrees. That would be fine with me!

Me too, Joanna. We have been having temps in the high 90's with a jungle like dew point in the mid 70's.

Karen, Sweater sets or long sleave man tailored shirt(can fold sleaves up if it gets hot) with sweater (tied around shoulders) jeans, loafer type shoes will be best for weather and doesn"t scream TOURIST! Sweat shirts are good to lounge on ship deck. IMO, Macy

Yep, we've been there this time of year and had a bit of various weather including light showers. Layers work best. I don't think I could get Tom to tie the sweater around his neck look but hey, if it works for others (Tom isn't quite the preppy type). I'd take a very light jacket...it really won't be cold but may cool down in the evenings. What I remember best in October day time is perfect weather....not too hot, not too cool! It's the best time to visit IMO!

We were in Greece last October and it was rainy and blustery. Do bring pashminas, and what Marcie said.

A bit blustery and only slightly rainy on our last full day in Istanbul, Andi. Otherwise, magnificent weather.

On VOF (Oct 1st) we had great weather.

Two weeks later on SSS (Oct 15th but virtually the same itinerary) Venice was clear, cold and windy. We had rain in Sorrento, and it was so rough we had to cancel our scheduled overnight and sail for calmer harbors. All of the excursions to Pompeii and Herculeneum were cancelled as the roads were washed out. We also were not able to land in Naxos for Taormina and had to find another port.

Expect some changeable weather...

Remember Mykonos? We couldn't go to Delos because it was so blustery? We went to the beach and it was COLD! It was too cold to really use the the pool comfortably too.

We were told the week before it was beautiful.

Yes, Mykonos was windy. However, we didn't find it cold. We really liked the weather we had and found it very comfortable. Only day that wasn't good, in my opinion, was the last day in Istanbul.

Everyone feels differently w/hot/cold/rain.

Karen, have you considered a nice, tropical mumu or housedress for lounging around the pool? So loose-fitting and comfy for during the day. ;)

Anything past the end of Sept can be iffy weather wise, as this does head into their stormy season. Temps should still be high enough, but you probably should still take some cover ups such as sweaters or sweatshirts because it will definately get cooler in the evenings.

Mu-mu's work for me....I always make sure it's XXL and it serves to shield me from the sun too as I slink down and use it as a pup-tent to protect myself from the rays! If scotch-guarded, maybe it could even serve to protect you from VERY light sprinkles?? (may need to cut some eye holes)

My mother used to sew mu-mu's for me to sleep in. I didn't know they still made those things.

The weather in the Med in Oct/Nov can be very changeable. Last year we arrived in Rome 21 Oct. The weather for the three days in Rome was beautiful with temps in the mid to high 70s. It was even a bit uncomfortable walking at times, which we did a lot of. We boarded Diamond 25 Oct at Cavitavecchia and the trip to Livorno was good, but late in the afternoon in Livorno we had heavy thunderstorms that lasted well into the night. Next stop was Monaco and the morning was in the high 60s, but it was in the mid 70s by afternoon. Same in Barcelona, Malaga, and Cadiz. It was a bit cooler in Lisbon and we had some rain, but not enough to preclude touring Sintra, et al. Funchal was nice in the AM, but we had rain in the PM with temps in the low 70s. The Transatlantic trip to San Juan was 70s all the way with a little intermittent rain a couple of days. As we approached San Juan the temps went up to the 80s. Definitely carry an umbrella in the Med, regardless of what the morning looks like, because the weather can change very quickly.

I recently got the LLBean travel catalogue. A friend says she wore the black travel knit slacks for the flight over and then, with nicer, maybe even dressy tops, for dinners. She was on a high end safari with time in various cities along the way -- some very nice places, I gather -- so needed something that looked very nice. She said the cotton/stretchy combo meant the knees didn't bag out and they were still comfortable. She said this was much more comfortable than jeans for traveling. It's also a fairly fine weave so it didn't look too sporty/casual. Sounds like a versatile option. I haven't gotten to the local LLBean store yet, but the catalogue lists several colors (navy and dark brown, at least) so you could pick your best color for mix and match. There are, of course, several other companies that make similar products. She said to look for at least 12% stretchy stuff.I was figuring this would look nicer than jeans, certainly for European environments where many folks are a little dressier. Now to deal with the concept of people not wearing "tennies" aka sneaker-looking shoes and finding something like black sneakers with decent support or walking shoes that I can stand (might look ok with black travel pants) to take care of walking on all those cobblestones without agony. :D (Black isn't my color but I already have a black pashmina so probably black shoes and black slacks and.... crayola color tops.)

sjanova: great suggestions - I find I wear half of what I bring but still never learn my lesson - Chicos has a great "travelers" line - non wrinkle pants and oh so comfortable - right Ngaire?? Great tops and jackets etc too - So important to be comfortable on overseas flights - I have gone into bathroom and put on sweat pants and changed again before landing - Like Karen I bring way too many shoes but end up wearing loafers or "drivers" which are comfortable and have a grip for those cobblestones -

Doug, I will take those temps in October! Have been in Greece in early Oct with beach weather. Even rain that "goes into the night" will not bother me, so long as not in the day and heavy. I have been so lucky with all my travels, as weather I don't even remember, so it must have been good!

I will take any weather I get - just being on the ship is heaven for me - we had terrible downpours in Lucca in Sept (early) 2003...other than that it was always perfect - so who knows for October...thanks for advice I will pack accordingly

Oh, that's right. My carpoolmate mentioned Chico's. And today (after I posted the earlier note) we got the Lands End catalogue with their similar stretchy 88% cotton, 12% spandex pants. There are some nice looking twin sets (cotton with a tiny bit of stretch) in nice colors. Might be more than I want to invest in that just now. Well, maybe not. Hmm.
