I was going to do this several years ago, but unfortunately it was cancelled due to lack of participation for the excursion on my Regent/Radisson cruise. At the time, I had researched the way you got to where you begin the spanning part, and remember that it looked more than I can do these days! Enjoy, Maddy and Paul!

My husband and I did this a couple of years ago. We are no where near as fit as Maddy and Paul. We are both a teensy bit in the chubby side and not at all athletic. But it really was not that difficult and well, worth the effort. I would encourage anyone who is reasonably healthy to go ahead and do it!

If you google videos for Sydney bridge climb, there are tons of videos to watch.

Is the Harbour Bridge climb included in Regent's excursions? If not, may I suggest you book when you get here as they usually climb regardless of the weather and if you went today, you wouldn't see a thing! (It's bucketing down.) A great time in summer is early evening when you get to view a bit of day and night. All this advice comes from one who will never climb that height!!!

Yes it is, Lee, at quite a cost. Sometimes I just don't understand these things when we've already paid for all inclusive.

Best deal we found is with Shorestripsandtours.com @$379.60 for two at 10a.m. Regent price is $518 for the 10a.m. climb. Viator's price for the morning climb is $433. You get a group pix with all three, Viator includes a climb cap too. Here is a climb vid:

Thanks, Wes, I saw that, boy was it fast. It's those straight up ladders that I don't like doing anymore, I thought I saw them still. Plus, everyone looked way younger and fit to me!

I've stayed on another cruise at the hotel right under the bridge, Park Hyatt as I remember, and my room balcony faced that part of the bridge, and watched the climbers. Looks like fun for you and Ida, the really fit ones!

Your welcome Olivia. Actually Ida and I are doing this $13 pp option:

http://www.pylonlookout.com.au/Visitor_frs.htm

We visited Sydney last year on Silversea but did not get inside the Sydney Opera house, so we are taking the Opera house excursion
this year. After lunch we will do the pylon look out.

Olivia;

I have seen all ages do the climb! and some in terrible physical condition.. I usually drop Carla off she has done it more than once and then I watch from the roof of the Park Hyatt.. They take a ton of breaks along the way as well.. If weather is permitting and you feel its not too hot then I would do it if you really want to..

FYI, there is now another Auckland land trip you can get besides the Winery/countryside program, link is below.

What we like about it is there is On day two on your visit to Walheke Island you enjoy an olive oil tasting and a couple of wine tastings. On day three you take a cruise on an underground river line with limestones that are illuminated by glow worms. Then you go to a delightful home with a wonderful English Garden and enjoy a home cooked lunch. And on day four prior to heading for embarkation, you go to the Auckland Museum. You also get a three course dinner on day one, on the winery land program no dinners are provided. We switched.

Synopsis of both being from NZ I know the difference.

New Program Kiwis - Waiheke and Waitomo

Waiheke Island is very nice and being on the ferry is fun and it is right in town where you take the ferry. You will visit wineries there.
Waitomo - 3 hour drive each way so be prepared for that in one day a lot of driving - about 6 hours.
Waitomo is lovely going through the grottos in a boat with the worms glowing overhead. However you need to know that the last time I was there there are very steep steps to climb when you get out of the boats. Unless this has changed probably not suitable if you cannot climb the steps.
Auckland Museum - on a hilltop, great Maori things to see including a huge war canoe.

Old Program - Countryside and Wineries

The Gannet Colony is about an hour out of Auckland. Stunning area and if you like birds a great sight.
Sheep Shearing and watching the sheep dogs work is always a great thing to do. I have been to watch the dogs more times than I can tell you. However, you will have opportunities to do this during the cruise.
Wine Country also about one hour outside of Auckland. Vineyards in New Zealand are really lovely. Bit more in depth on the wineries as the whole day is focused on wine.

Both programs will have the gorgeous New Zealand countryside.

Hi everyone.

Sorry to say that we're going to have to make a change. Mona's doctor doesn't want her to fly such long distances so we're switching from this cruise to FROLIC.

Some of you are also on FROLIC so we'll see you just a couple of months later.

We were looking forward to the Australia/New Zealand itinerary but the crossing on the Explorer will be a great substitute.

To those we'll miss on this cruise we hope to see you soon.

Tom.

I'm at a loss how to start a new thread to ask this, but is anyone coming in a few days before the pre-cruise tours to spend a day or 2 in Auckland and get over jet lag?

Tom, glad I'll be on with you and Mona on the crossing! It will be just as nice!

Thanks Karen I missed this post as I was in Myanmar.

Lots of symbolism here for the Kiwi pin

Kiwi Bird, Kiwi Fruit, Fern on black and white (symbol of the famous All Blacks Rugby Team, plus Maori carving on the left hand side. New Zealand has so many things are are "totally kiwi" the name was perfect for this cruise.

Working on that sailing now will be here very soon.

Margaret Lynn will be your Cruise Director. She is on the Navigator with us now and goes directly to the Voyager when we get to Miami next week.

Hard to believe but we are leaving two weeks from today. We are shipping the luggage and are already packed which takes a lot of the stress out of the equation. We spend one night in Atlanta visiting our daughter, son-in-law and granddaughters and then fly to Sydney for three days pre-cruise. Looking forward to meeting everyone in Auckland.

Unfortunately, I've had to remove myself from this roll-call. A fall just before Christmas required some surgery, and the doc says no go. Hope to be up and running for FROLIC in March!

We leave this Friday for our pre-cruise land trip to Australia, then fly to Auckland for a couple of days before the cruise.

It has been challenging trying to pack for this trip! We are shipping our luggage for the cruise, but we also have to pack separately for the 3 weeks in Australia. And we are limited to 50 pounds a piece for combined checked and carry-on! I know you safari veterans are used to packing light like this, but it is a first for me to pack so little for a 3 week trip. Lot's of clothing recycling!

We are so excited!

Snowing here. Signal it's time to get out of town soon. Asheville doesn't deal with the white stuff well. Run on milk, eggs and bread.

Pammy,
Margaret Lynn is from N. Carolina and was once upon a time a singer on the PG & Diamond. We thought she did a nice job. She runs a really efficient trivia: each question is read 3 times and that's it, no repeats at the end. On the Navigator they paid out 1st (3 points), 2nd (2 points) & 3rd (1 point.)

Snowing like crazy here in Williamsburg this morning, supposed to snow most of the day. Very cold as well. We have a farewell party this evening for some friends leaving the area.......luckily its a short walk around the corner, think we will be walking very slowly. LOL. Somehow I thought living in Southern VA would be less cold and snow.......hmmmmm.
