Looking forward to the PARTY cruise in December.

I was just reading on the RSSC website that, "your New Year's Eve attire may consist of a Panama Hat, a pareo and slippers . . . "

This is our first Holiday cruise with Radisson and I'm just wondering if New Year's Eve will be a formal night?

If anyone knows, your help would be most appreciated.

This is our first 14 night cruise, how many formal nights will be included? 2 or 3 I'm guessing . . .

Mahalo and thanks in advance for your help!

cheer

Island Girl, on trips of more than 12 days, my experience has always been 3 formal nights. But that comment about New Year's Eve attire sort of took me aback. I had figured that would be a formal night, but I guess not. There are 4 other sea days, so plenty of other times to require formal wear.

Both of our New Year's Eve cruises on Radisson (Mariner and Voyager) were formal. Of course, who knows what the future brings.

I was on the Paul Gauguin on New Year's and even though it is an all casual ship, many dressed up for New Year's. The ship provided decorations, hats and blowers to welcome in the New Year.

Susan, that quote from Island Girl came straight from the website link to holiday cruise for the Voyager, so no telling what they will do. It was certainly misleading if they plan to have a formal night. If they don't have formal on NYEve, I expect that they will find other opportunities on sea days, as we have several.

I checked and the dress code to date, which can always be subject to change according to the captain's directive is 3 Formal, 3 Informal,6 Casual, and 2 undecided. Presently they are:

27th Casual
28th Formal
29th Casual
30th Informal
31st Undecided
1st Informal
2nd Casual
3rd Formal
4th Casual
5th Casual
6th Informal
7th Undecided
8th Formal
9th Casual

Susan:

That is similar to what we had on Voyager through Canal over New Years. They then added New Years as formal but I believe they dropped last formal night. Doug might remember better than me.

You are most welcome! Have a great trip. It is great fun to be on a ship over the holiday! Wish I could join the fun but I have to work.

I really wish that they would drop another formal night and make New Years Eve formal. Then it would be a very special night. It would be fun to get really dressed up and party that night.

I'm going to do my best to go glam on that evening. Glam and dancing the new year in is one of Gary's wishes for this trip. Cheers, Anne

The ship goes through the Panama Canal on the 31st . . . which makes it a very long day, starting before the ship enters the Canal at 6:30am and doesn't leave till 9pm.

Based on that, it is unlikely that New Years Eve will be formal.

Peggy, that is exactly same itin we had. We went through Gatun Locks around 0600. Miraflores Locks in around 2100. And then under bridge before midnight. We had a formal night with party out on deck.

Thanks! I'm heading up to NYC today and will browse through the consignment shops. The one-shoulder aqua dress, though, will be hard to beat. Lots more bike riding is needed to make sure it still fits by New Year's. Cheers, Anne

Aloha to all and thanks so much for your responses.

I am very happy to hear that most of you would prefer to dress up a bit for New Year's Eve.

After all, if that isn't a formal night, I don't know what is?!??!

I would like to know from those who have cruised the Panama Canal that time of year, how warm will the temperature be in the evening?

Perhaps "formal light" would be the perfect thing?

No matter what, I know it's going to be so special to be transitting the Canal on New Year's Eve. cheer

I know how you feel Anne. I haven't taken off the pounds that I gained at the all inclusive resort in the Dominican Republic last month. We eat out all of the time and it is very hard to lose weight.

I'm working hard to fit into a sparkly dress from a few years that I wanted to wear on New Years Eve. If I can get into it, I'll be wearing it, formal night or not!

I checked again today and December 31 is still a big question mark. Perhaps Radisson just wants to keep us guessing, leave it as whatever you feel like, or maybe it is Captain's choice.

I think every Radisson reservation agent is tired of me asking, but I finally got an answer. Fortunately, you don't have to wear your birthday suit. While they would not commit to informal or formal, I finally was told that the New Year's theme is black and white. If I get more of an update in the future I will let you know.

Susan, you are so great to keep checking for us.

That is very cool that the theme is black & white.

Even if they make it informal rather than formal, just the color scheme will make it quite formal!!

Mahalo nui loa for all your efforts.

Kathy, you have found the solution for me! I really don't need to go out and look for more formal clothes, as I never wear them at home. I have all sorts of pearl necklaces, however.

I am sure that I can come up with a black and white casual outfit but I was really looking forward to it being formal Oh well I will survive. I guess since that is the day that we go through the canal that it makes sense. I think that we are still going through during the evening
