I agree with that Frank, you got it right, but I also feel the same about jeans after 6pm. There are plenty of cruise lines where you can wear what you want when you want and they are a heck of a lot cheaper, so that is why there are choices.
We choose Regent because they still have a dress code in the evening and in general passengers stick to it.
If we want to wear jeans and shorts in the dining room, then we will choose a line where there is no dress code. I like the dress code and am willing to adhere to it.

This is a pretty emotional subject to many, but we too are of the opinion that we should dress nicely for dinner.
Even on the last night of our cruises, my husband typical still wears a sport coat over an open collar shirt and I wear nice slacks and blouse. If it is going to be a really long flight home and we feel we need to be more comfortable, and since luggage pick up is not until 11:00pm or so, we will usually go back to our room after dinner and stuff our dinner clothes into the luggage and put on our traveling clothes for the next day - then head to bar for a nightcap. I have to travel in special tennis shoes due to arthritis when we do a lot of walking (like changing terminals!), but there is no way I would wear tennis shoes to the dining room, even if it is the last night of the cruise!

Needless to say, we agree with the dress for dinner crowd. JoAnn is right -- if you want to wear shorts or jeans at night, choose another cruise line. We still look forward to the formal optional nights--we love to see everyone all dressed up and Jerry loves to wear his tuxedo --he wants to bring it even when there aren't any formal optional nights.

Somehow Levi jeans(no ofense), shorts, beer shirts, baseball caps, rubber shoes(Crocs),work out suits, worn after 6pm just screams low class cruise ship....doesn't scream Regent to me....Perhaps I'm just old fashioned, we wouldn't think of going into the city dressed in these, so why would we eat in the dining room wearing these clothes.....I agree with Frank, JoAnn, Cindy and Peggy....Pat

If Regent allows jeans , even on the last night, I think the slippery slope just got a lot slippyer. See not reason that nice cotton docker type pants can not be what is worn on last night. Jeans can be in the cabin to wear the next day to travel and the cotton pants put in the carry on.
Hopefully , Regent will read the comments and rethink this policy. The new dress code adopted a few years ago has worked well , no reason to change it. Just my humble opinion.

Ngaire, is this really a dress code policy change or just Mark Conroy stating that "......I think jeans are ok....."? IMO, there is a difference in opinion and policy. To my knowledge, the dress code for Sette Mari has not been changed on the Regent website. This is a bit confusing.

Jackie, here is what it says on the Regent website: Attire ranges from Casual to Formal Optional. Casual wear is appropriate for daytime onboard or ashore, and consists of resort-style outfits. Casual wear, including shorts and jeans, is not appropriate after 6:00 pm, with the exception of the final evening of the cruise. On the night prior to disembarkation, guests may need to pack their luggage early due to morning flights the next day. With this in mind on the last night of every voyage we will relax the dress code for dinner to Casual.
The recommended onboard dress in the evenings is Elegant Casual resort wear. Formal and semi-formal attire is optional on sailings of 16 nights or more. Dinner dress includes skirt, or slacks with blouse or sweater, pant suit or dress for ladies; slacks and collared shirt for gentlemen. Sport jackets are optional. Jeans, shorts, t-shirts or tennis shoes are not to be worn at dinner. Ties are not required.

Sounds as if the "new" dress code in Sette Mari isn't official. Thanks Karen!

It's only official for the last night of the cruise. I don't want to see shorts and jeans any night of the cruise

This is as Karen states ONLY the last night of the cruise. I had heard rumblings that they get a lot of requests for this relaxed code on the last night. So possibly they are trying to accommodate those that expressed this wish.
I suspect in reality not that many people will avail themselves of this casual a code even if it is the last night.
Time will tell and who knows it may be reversed if enough people complain on the other side for a normal "elegant casual" on the last night.

I don't know exactly when the policy of allowing casual dress on the last evening of a cruise started but it was in effect in December 2010 when we cruised on Mariner from Cape Town to Ft. Lauderdale. Frankly, I doubt I've seen more than a couple of people wearing jeans on the last night of the three cruises I've been on since then. IMHO, we're making a mountain out of a molehill. It's not a problem now, but the best way to guarantee that more people will start wearing jeans, etc. on the last night of a cruise is to keep discussing it on public forums. In this case I think the best policy is to let sleeping dogs lie.

Well said Dave I never even knew that policy was in effect and now I find out it has been there since December of 2010. In fact I thought it was a new policy. I do not remember seeing any shorts or jeans on the last night of the cruise. Not been an issue since then probably wont be an issue in the future.
Lets see if there is an issue when we are on the ships and if so then write on our comment cards our feelings. Those comment cards do fuel things more than we all realize they REALLY read those notes.

Can anyone tell me where on the new website you can find the daily dress code for a particular cruise? Think I liked the format before, where under "my cruises" you could see itinerary laid out all on one page, one day under another, with arrival and departure times, and dress code for the day. Since Grand Prix is longer than 15 days, just want to know which will be formal optional, as that is a signal for special menu in CR.

Wes, I think Olivia meant the dress code for each particular cruise, not in general. The old website used to have the dress code next to each day of your booked cruise telling you if is was informal or country club causal or whatever they call it. I just looked on my cruise and like Olivia, I don't see that anymore.

Yes, Karen, that is correct, I'm trying to find the night by night code on Grand Prix as there is usually a special menu in CR on the formal optional nights and would like to know for alternate dining venue planning. If there is one thing I now know, it is the "official" dress code on the ships after all the discussion here and on CC! Not that I would wear jeans at dinner on any Regent cruise, the only confusing thing is whether they are "officially" now permitted any night in SM given the email from Marc Conroy.

Olivia, did you find it? I tried searching the other day and couldn't find dress codes for cruises; they used to be so easy to find. I saw recently that TAJ MAHAL added two Formal Optional nights. I hope that is not the case with Grand Prix. I really don't want to bring my tux but will feel obliged to join Jerry in donning tuxes. All I have to do is find a way to lose 15 pounds in three months or my tux is going to look very strange. :lct:

I thought that Grand Prix had some formal optional nights, but they may have scrapped them.

Eugene,
You're correct. The "old" Regent website showed the second and second to the last nights of Grand Prix to be formal optional. I was assuming that they would be the Captain's welcome and farewell receptions. The dress code link that Col. Wes posted states "Formal and semi-formal attire is optional on sailings of 16 nights or more", so I'm guessing that since GP is 17 nights that will apply.
As I recall when you book your specialty restaurant reservations on line the events for the night are listed (Captain's welcome, SSS party etc). I wonder if that will be the same?
Jerry will not be alone! Mark will be packing (I will be packing) his tux as it has yet to visit South America. Marc how can you leave your Mickey bow tie at home? It begs to be trotted out with all your finery!

I sent in an inquiry to see if I can find out for everyone (a) if there are going to be formal nights and (b) what nights they will be.
Ken will NOT be in a tuxedo that I can guarantee so if you like or dislike tuxedos you will have company with your point of view.

Thanks, Ngaire! Maybe you could urge them to put the daily dress codes back on the website, especially for the longer cruises where they usually signal special parties, and menus in CR.

Thanks for checking Ngaire. Frank, and probably our friend Jack would be up for tuxes, and we certainly can't let Jerry have all the attention, and Marc, don't think we have had the honor to see you in a tux, much less with a Micky Mouse bow tie!!!

When the web first went on line that was one of the things we asked to have reinstated along with some other issues mostly on our TA site.

Mike, as usual Pat looks gorgeous, glad I had my sunglasses with me as I needed them badly--being seated next to you during the Captain's welcome then dinner at CR :)
ps..yesterday, sent a query to our Regent contact in FLL about the day to day dress code missing on the new website. He sent me the link for the general description of the dress code as now published (jeans OK as exception last night of cruise). Apparently, he also not aware new website does not have the day to day dress code like the previous website. He is checking with the Regent IT team. Will post if I hear back.

I heard back from Regent on the missing dress codes on the new web. The basic message was as follows.
"The dress code was on the web site before the update from the days of Casual, Informal and Formal nights when specific dress codes were in place. As the dress code is now Elegant Casual every night with the only variance cruises of 16 nights or more having Formal Optional nights it seemed unnecessary to consistently list Elegant Casual"
In reality this is true. The best meals for the restaurants are the Captains Welcome Aboard and the Captains Farwell. Almost always the second night out and the second to last night on the ship. Only variance would be if one of those two nights it was a very late departure from a port a rare occurrence. So if you are on a cruise that is 16 nights or more then these two nights will be the Formal Optional nights.
If you do not make alternative restaurant reservations on those two nights you should nearly always be just fine. The Society Night seems to "float" around and is often on my contract as XX night then the ship changes it for situations that develop on board. So I am sure they dont want to post that as it will be constantly changing anyway.
