It has been a long time since I have sailed on Regent with formal (optional) nights. What is "usual" attire: tux, suits, sports coats, jeans? More importantly, what is consensus among the Kangaroo'ens?

I doubt Tony will cart a suit for 2 formal nights(never tux) but rather a blazer shirt and tie

Since this is part of WC I'm guessing there will be lots more people dressed formally on F.O. night. The full WCers will definitely dress, segmenters like us may or may not. Tom will bring his dark suit (my guess), not a tux.

Then, observation lounge in one of the corners is an out of the way place where we won't be conspicuous.

Right Marc!!! I will tell him 2 formal nights and he'll figure it out he may want to bring a suit you never know. His luggage always outweighs mine by tons!!! :) :)

Actually on Optional Formal Nights you can STILL wear Elegant Casual and eat in the dining room. Probably about 20% of those on Kangaroo on the Optional Formal nights did that. Just shirt and pants. On Kangaroo I will probably bring a dark suit for Ken he wears the black pants as part of his "slack elegant casual" outfit anyway. He wore just a shirt and slacks on Kangaroo but I think he wished he had a jacket.
RESERVATIONS for dining for KANGAROO. The BK cocktail party and hosted dinners I will be requesting for February 26, at sea. So if you want to participate try to make your reservations for other nights.

While I have not been on a segment of the WC since the new code came into being, I was on a leg of the full South America cruise last year when it was in effect, and can say that on Formal Optional night, the definite minority of men were casual, I actually don't remember more than a few without at least a blazer and tie. Of course, our choice and certainly nothing bothers me, but I see what Ngaire is saying about Ken bringing a jacket. I think she meant DINGO (Not Kangaroo) when he wished he had a jacket. Not a big deal, but something to consider......
The "old" Informal has become my new "formal optional"!

Yep I meant DINGO for the last "optional formal night" experience. My whole office (including me) kept getting those two names confused. BOTH cruises embark in Sydney only a few months apart so we were working on both at the same time. Both names are an Australian animal. We have been using the wrong names for so long I just kept the tradition alive one more time.

I think I will pack the sportcoat and tie, just as a back up, I can always go Miami Vice style if need be... Our Aust/NZ adventure has no name, so for now we will just keep calling it "Our Cruise" I cannot believe Dingo has come and gone, time so flys...
