Mariner limping to Whittier tonight. One of the pods (engines) went out. Expecting to get into port 12 hours late.
MUSH Denali plans beging scrapped. Looks like a long night of cancellations and airline re-booking.

But on the bright side, we now have an 8 night cruise for the price of a 7 night :) We had aleady packed this morning before our engine trouble so I will have to dig through the suitcases to find something to wear to dinner tomorrow night. I feel bad for the poor people who expected to board tomorrow. We won't let their food go to waste, though. We have already special ordered surf and turf for dinner tomorrow night, lol.
I miss everyone lots and I am looking forward to catching up when I get home!

The MUSHers will make the most of this, for sure! Enjoy an extra day on Mariner!
Sorry for those who expected to embark; however, knowing RSSC, they will make appropriate arrangements to compensate for their disappointment and inconvenience.
Miss you, too, Karen!!!!
Denise
Retired and loving it!

Talk about ending your cruise with a bang! An extra night playing with your friends is nice though - good luck getting home (or to your next destination) everyone.

Oh wow!! Well, since I always want to have one more night on board, I probably would not have minded too much, but still!
Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends ~~M. Angelou~~

If this couldn't get better, after breakfast myself and 5 others get caught in the central elevator. Fortunately, with the glass, reception can see the problem and get maitenance to fix it. Unfortunately, your basically in a fish bowl with everyone glaring in for the 20 minutes it takes maintenance to get you out.

We (Kimmi's, Carla & Frank, Karen & Mark) were eating in CR last night when Capt. Philippe came on with the news about the broken pod. We all started clapping saying another day on MUSH. One of the waiters started dancing around chanting "No hauling luggage tonight"...he was a happy camper. I don't think anyone knows exactly what the problem is. At one point there was a rumor floating around (no pun intended) that we had hit a whale! I've since heard that this isn't true so I hope that was just a rumor.
We called Alaska Air last night and got our flight to LAX changed with no problem. They even waived the change fee. Seemed strange to begin the conversation with "Hi, I'm calling you from the middle of the ocean. Our ship is broken and we can't make our flight tomorrow". This delay really isn't affecting us at all....I feel so badly for those anticipating boarding the Mariner today in Whittier. I remember when we were all voting on chosing a week for MUSH and the sailing that would have started today came in 2nd....could have been us!
Another day of Wheel of Fortune, Trivia, Bingo and partying tonight in STARS. We have a table for 10 of us tonight in CR with all special ordered meals....looking forward to my steak & lobster I ordered.
MUSH keeps mushing along as we limp our way to Whittier!

Didn't almost the same thing happen a couple of years ago? I know there was some damage to a pod during the latter part of the Alaska season because our Mexican Riviera cruise was much slower, and port times were changed. Then, MINT missed Cabo completely (which we almost did; we had like two hours after dark).
I'll keep my fingers crossed that you all get home safely!

Yes it was MINT that had a problem a couple of years ago. I know because I was anticipating hearing from Gil on the phone and he couldn't call.
