I thought this was really cool, click here to access Google satellite maps. Type in your street address and zip code. You can zoom in and center your house with your mouse on the map. :hyper:

That is very cool! You can do that straight from Google also, and the first thing that comes up will be the link to the map.

Here are some other neat things that I learned recently about Google:

You can type Weather 97206 - or whatever your zip code may be and it will bring up the weather for that city.

Also, you can type in define: someword and it will bring up definitions.

Very cool, Karen - but kind of creepy too.

Yes, that is eerie.

Interesting that my neighbor always has his work vehicle (a fire truck) at the end of the street and yet there are NO cars on the map - even on the busy streets. But it is a perfect depiction. The hills behind our house had a fire two years ago and you can see where the burn was.

Oh wow - I totally missed the satellite aspect. And what I posted was wrong - you can't get to the satellite map just by typing the address into Google.

There were some cars when I went to my address. Wish I could zoom in even closer and see the flowers!

Karen, pretty neat! I just showed our map to my husband and he asked where I found the site. I told him LCT, and he said "Well, of course! Where else?" :)

Mine doesn't show the right location at all. I thought maybe because this is such a large city, so I tried my mother's house in OK & it isn't right either.
They show my house 4 houses down the street where I actually live. I tried one for a friend in Michigan & it said it didn't have zoom in capabilites for this particular area.

I used Netscape to do this - thought that was the problem, but the same thing happened using Explorer.

Fun Karen! Ours is correct as is son's in Raleigh. However, checked son in OK (Stillwater) and it's just a blurry overview, won't do an address. Suspect it's just part of a rural OK overview.

I miss out on all the fun! Tried downloading and tried Google but no luck. Oh well, I suppose I'm lucky that at least I know where I am even if no-one else does!

Checked out a friend's house in Sacramento - pointed to the intersection of her street and the connecting street instead of her house - but pretty close. Fun stuff. Our house isn't available at the necessary level of zoom. :)

Pretty cool! I had to zoom out one space to get our map and the pointer was for just up the street from us (can not distinguish buildings but can see our road & pond and of course the small airport just southeast of us). I can hardly wait to show my husband.

That is really cool!
It seems that whenever I try to get off of it my computer freezes. It freezes also when I am navigating around the site. I don't have that problem with any other website.I have to shut down the computer and turn it on again.Does anyone know why?

Does anyone know how old these images are? I know they are not real-time.

Robert,
I wondered the same thing. Looking at the view of our area, it appears that it could be several months old. It seems to be before the hurricanes of last year..September. There is still, now, so much repair work to be done, and there are still blue tarp roofs, unrepaired dune crossovers, and construction trailers in the parking lots of the nearby hotels. I see none of that, in the Google view.
But, I will say, the arrow is right on the money with my address!

The map for my address is at least 2 years old, maybe 3 or more, judging from the lack of houses to the west that actually exist and have existed for a while. But that sure was fun.

I searched my mother's address and it put the arrow about 4 houses west of her's. For my address, it placed the arrow across the street and a block east of where I live.

BTW, Karen, is that a new avitar picture ? (or have I just been really slow on the uptake?!)

I was going to ask the same question of Karen. Same great smile, just looks different. Karen? Where was that picture taken if it is new?

I saw something about that Google feature a couple of weeks ago, and tried it. I can see our pool through the trees, but the pointer arrow thing is across the street and four or five houses away from us.
