I've thrown a half dozen pictures of the house we are building up on Smug Mug. Everything is still very unfinished, completely covered in sawdust and granite dust, but it's moving on along. We hope to move in when we get home from Roar.

Love your new home! It's lovely, absolutely lovely, Pam. What's the length of time you've had it under construction? The setting is also so very pretty!

LOL! Suzie, it's only two stories, it just has a really steep roofline. I don't know why. The only rooms on the second floor are two bedrooms, a bath, and a HUGE bonus room for the grandkids.

We will probably miss the lake, but it's to the point that we don't go out on the boat, so now we'll look at woods. Mark had some of his guys down there clearing out "the forest" that's way back in our back yard, and they were accosted by a herd of curious deer. The builder's superintendent said he has seen a flock of wild turkeys wandering around, too.

We picked the tile for the floor first, and have carried the tile board with us when we have picked everything out. I can't wait to see it CLEAN! It's stayed so dirty, with all the sawdust and stuff.

Pam - what a beautiful house and setting. I love the floor tile - it's elegant and versatile enough to give you lots of leeway with the interior decor.

Hope it's up and running for your move after ROAR. You'll have to readjust after ROAR - the deer and red lechwe herds are awfully similar from a distance.

Cheers, Anne

Pam, you're house is lovely, the tile especially. What fun you'll have decorating it! That's after you've recovered from ROAR II, of course.

Thanks for all the flattery, everybody! We love the tile.

Andi, Mark and I have as much frustration with construction as anybody. We have a great builder, but since it's a custom house, we take on a lot of the day-to-day small stuff for him. We are just a little more experienced with that small stuff than possibly the "average bear" would be because this isn't our first time through the garden. Luckily, there aren't many things we don't agree on immediately.

We have an acre and a half. The lot beside us is sold to a builder, and I don't think he's had many nibbles. The lot on the other side isn't really a lot, it is classified as common property. Our lot is really, really deep, and we are still trying to decide how much to undercut the "forest" that's out there.

Well, it is lovely and looks ever so private. There are all sorts of acre and a half lots and yours looks like perfection. See you soon. Bring some more pictures to Africa.

Your house is beautiful and I can see why you chose the tile first. I'm in love with your kitchen.

Pam,

Really beautiful; can;t wait to see interim photos, and of course, the final product!

Just curious; how far out of "metro" Memphis are you to have 1 1/2 acres? We.ve been looking for 5? yrs, within a 50 mile radius and even that far out, the developers are doing VERY small lots! SO frustrating as we'd like some privacy, without being isolated. Currently have 3/4A , due to topography in a typical 1/2 A neighborhood, in "teardown" mode!

Pam,

Your new home is beautiful. Having just moved, I understand the amount of work ahead, but its so worth it in the end. When I figure out how to post a picture I'll folow in your steps. Much luck and good health in your new home.

(Other)Kathy, we are building in N. Mississippi, in DeSoto County. By the time we move, we'll probably be annexed into Olive Branch. The main suburb areas of Memphis aren't that far away, but this part of the county is still very rural. The subdivision is like 35 lots, none under 1/2 acre, and you have to have permission to clear trees of any size. The developer is determined to keep the private country look, and we are thrilled. We looked at any number of lots up to four acres, but most of them were simply oversized subdivision lots (with the accompanying price tag).

We are striving for the peaceful, welcoming look for our house. I hope that when it's finished, it looks like it's been sitting there for years and years, waiting for you to come visit.

Thanks for the compliments! We love the way it's coming along.

I added a better picture of the pool, they have stopped on it until people can quit throwing trash in it. I don't know where manners have gone! The watering system is almost ready to turn on, so maybe we can get some grass sodded. While where we are has been bone dry, that area has gotten major downpours that wash away all the grading work, almost weekly.

Mark has a new project to keep him occupied. He has almost convinced Sonja and Andy to build across the street, so if they decide to, he can "help" them with their house. Bless their hearts.

I loved looking at your photos, Pam. We just finished building our first house and moved in about three months ago (and love it), so I can relate. You picked gorgeous, gorgeous tile! And I love the trees in the back, which will make it seem so private.

Editing to say: I wrote that first sentence poorly. This isn't our first house -- just the first house we've had built for us.
