Don,

We are big on toys at our house too. Love the bluetooth in the car. Now we call as we drive by those fast food places for support in avoiding them, huh?

I'm just glad we don't have In-N-Out here in Texas!!! It would have to be on my phone, for sure. Diana's downfall would be See's!

Thanks guys! Yes Kathy, making up for lost time!
Oh the ups and downs of dieting!

One week (or two) you're beating yourself up because you haven't lost anything or very little and you think what's the use, then the next week comes, you work real hard at staying on task, and bam, it just comes right off again!

Sure wish there was just a skinny pill that one could take to be instantly slim.

Good luck to everybody else this week!

Don,

You are doing so well. I am currently on vacation from dieting. Too much going on for me to deal with all the carbs and calories for the moment.

Oh my goodness. I went to a black tie event with DH. I took out a silk pant suit to wear that I always take on my cruises for informal night, I couldn't fasten the pants.........!!!! I had to wear something else, black, of course, for slimming purposes. I'm eleven pounds heavier than when I went on my Alaska cruise in 08/04. None of my night-time cruise wear fits. I immediately went out for a one hour walk yesterday and ate nothing after 6:30pm. I'm cruising in 10 weeks. If I can just lose six, I can squeeze back into them, so here goes.

Ok, I just ran out to Trader Joes and got "diet appropriate" food. My old trick for losing weight is to make a huge pot of lentil/vegetable soup and live off of that every night.
Also I have a smoothie every morning:
Half a packet of soft tofu (refrigerated kind)
A glass of grapefruit juice
A couple of handfuls of frozen fruit
Blend the heck out of it.

Thanks for the support. I'm going to need it. Either that or a whole new wardrobe!

Julie, welcome to our little (well, working on little) group! Everybody here has been so supportive, making it easier to keep on going, even when you don't feel like it. I am sure you will make your goal and then some. We are here for you.

Kathy, thank you so much. I am glad that I still lost last week. I had my lapses, that's for sure. This week, back to the straight and narrow.

Well, another two days till weigh in. I am optimistic about my progress this week. Only had one little indulgence this week. 1/2 glass of wine.

I even made it to workout several times this week. Even when I didn't feel like it. I am the master at excuses. It's too cold. I'm tired. My back is sore. I worked around the house this week and that's exercise enough. Oh, and my personal favorite. It is only a few calories that I'm burning anyways! LOL Sound familiar?

Well, I hope everybody has a great weekend. Remember, when you diet, make this your goal, throw out the doughnut and skip the roll! LOL

Don, you are doing great! Hang in there.
I've kinda switched to doing South Beach. I'm ramping up to do the induction soon. DH and I are practising now by eating lots of grilled meats for dinner and boiled eggs for breakfast. I've lost 1 1/2 pounds this week.
I did slip up last night. I went to the symphony and had two glasses of champagne. I can't believe champagne isn't on the diet!
I used to work in an office in San Diego. About two years after I left the job, I went back to visit everyone. I could not believe my eyes when I walked in. The whole office went on South Beach together. They lost hundreds of pounds togeher. In addition, many of them had colored their hair or pepped up their appearance in some way. I felt as though I was having an out of body experience looking at them all! Many of them lost over fifty pounds after I left.

Wow, Julie, that could be motivating. Well, this IS the group diet for many of us. Don is our example of just do it and it happens. Of course, all of us females with slow metabolism are happy to lose a quarter of what he loses when we exercise.

Years ago, I did well on what my MD called the Steak and Salad diet. I think South Beach is a cross between that, Atkins and No Carb. We all have something that works for us when we work it!

Julie, I know what you mean about the champagne. I am allowed "some" wine on my diet, but in moderation. It is the moderation part that I have a problem with! LOL Keep up the good work.

Kathy, it may also be that I have so much more to lose. I am trying to be very disciplined, but it is hard. I think a better name for my diet should be the Duncan Diet as in Yo-Yo!

OK, that being said, I did hit my goal this week and am down another three. Still a long way to go with only 53 more days left till we head for Lisbon.

How is everybody doing this week?

I am a little sore. Just started with weight workouts this week. The trainer that I am using is a friend of one of the Cowboy players that I sold a house to. I figured that I needed to add this to my regular cardio workout. Those muscles that have not been used for awhile are in full rebellion!

Don,

Building muscle is a really good thing. Muscle burns calories, but, it also weights more than fat. Keep it up!

I have a new assistant part time at the office. Her other job is that she is a trainer. What a great example she is - she ets little bits all day long and dashes up and down the hallway. Oh to bottle that energy (she's also 20ish)

I'm still South Beaching. I've lost four pounds total. It's not a bad diet for me since I don't have a sweet tooth. Kathy, I have eaten a lot of steak and salad in the last week so I think it is very similar to that diet you were on.
Don, great idea to add strength training. I'm going to yoga three times a week and going on long walks on the other days but I think I need to step it up.
Only 59 days until I leave for Lisbon!

Wow Julie, good job! Keep up the good work! Looks like you are only leaving about 12 days after us, so I know what you mean about stepping it up. As we get closer to cruise time, the more I am pushing myself to get into shape. I need to be able to climb those hills in Lisboa.

Don,

I have to get in shape for those same hills, but, I have until June to do it. I better start working on making sure my cruise wardrobe fits too. Jeez, thanks for those reminders.

Good work, Julie. I need to hear all the successes you all have.

Kathy, at least you have the time to get past tax season to get there. I know you will do it.

I on the other hand do not have the luxury of time. We have started walking in the evenings as well, in order to prepare for all that walking that we are going to be doing in Europe.

Thanks y'all. I know I'm such a whiner. I feel better, am looking better, clothes are getting looser, and here I am complaining about not losing it as fast as I would like.

I posted that before I went to work out this morning. I quickly found out though, how far I am getting with endurance. The same biking that was exhausting last week, was a breeze this morning. My heart rate was more than 10 points below where it was just a week ago. I had to step up the resistance another level on the bike in order to get my heart rate higher and it still didn't get above the 150 mark.

So now I will try to focus on the whole picture and not just on how much the frame weighs! LOL

Should lose some this week. Between moving my office, helping our kids move into the new house we closed on today, and getting our house ready to sell, I'm beat! Then I have stepped up my biking to another level and working out with weights. With all that, who has time to eat? LOL

Didn't get a chance to post on Monday, but lost two pounds last week. How did everybody else do?

BTW, has anybody ever heard of Dr, Sheets? Somebody told me about his diet and people are supposed to be losing a ton of weight. The premise is balanced carbs and protein. www.leanbodies.com

There is a Dr. here doing the same program. There is so much money to be made doing diet and weight loss.

Don, Congrats on the 2 lbs. Since you asked, I am not doing anything but thinking about my next diet!

Me too, I'm thinking about how to lose the 5 lbs I gained on the Voyager wc. Arrived home on Saturday and I'm having a little trouble getting back on track..My weight watchers is easy, its going back to Curves thats hard for me right now. I guess the jetlag from traveling 27 hours home is still acting up. How long does it take to feel normal again?

Isn't that the truth. As soon as I lose all this weight, I'm going to write a book. Doctor Dons, LOSE WHILE YOU CRUISE! The premise will be, that you can lose all the weight you want by cruising all the time!!! Should be a hit on LCT!!! LOL

Let's see, you could handle the photography (no wide angle lens of course), we could get LeeAnne to help me with the writing (I need somebody the help me with the spelling and punctuations), we can get Marcie and all the other world cruisers to be models, and Ngaire can handle the group bookings. LOL

Now for a confession. Last night. Chocolate Bomb Cake! Tomorrow. Weigh In! <img border="0" alt="[bang]" title="" src="graemlins/banghead.gif" />

Sign me up, Don. (lol) Will it be a torture diet? You can see all that good food but not eat it?

Actually, my friend that was doing Jenny Craig with me went back and is harping on me to join him at it again. Will probably make that call for an appointment the next couple days.

Actually Kathy, the alternative restaurant will offer low carb while the other one offers low fat. The torture part comes when Suzanne Somers shows everybody the correct way to use the Thighmaster! LOL

Bumping this thread.

Strength training for women:

I started some modest weight-training some time ago, upper body. And I used a couple of sites, thought they might be of interest. I use 3-pound dumbbells, and would probably not go higher, but I am not pumping iron, merely trying to get my bones to not melt away, and firm up my arms a bit:

http://www.weightlossresources.co.uk/exercise/body_toning/upper_body.htm

http://www.womensheartfoundation.org/content/Exercise/strength_training.asp

Appetite control:
I also am experimenting with a new wonder fibre. It was written up in one of our newspapers a few days ago. It's a fibre called PGX, which was developed for type-2 diabetics, to keep their insulin levels from surging after eating. That surge, even among non-diabetics, probably causes wear-and-tear on various body systems. So, somebody doing a clinical trial, discovered that people were losing weight. Long and short, I bought some pills made by a company called "Natural Factors" (Canadian), and bought one of their products, pills that you take before meals. I will report back on problems/effects in a while. It's just fibre, no weird stuff, and fibre is my friend! The link to the article is here:

Interesting, Wendy. Smart to do the weights.

Back on plan Tuesday for me. Want to feel better and fit into my spring wardrobe.

I can tell you how to lose weight FAST! Pick up an intestinal bug and suffer for 2 days. I lost 5 lbs. Interesting fact, I'm almost positive I caught it at my gym.
