For those of you who like jigsaw puzzles click here for Jigsaw Jam where they have a new jigsaw puzzle challange each day. I have been playing for a week now and I can't climb up the leader board, always stuck in the middle! You have to register to get a username but it just takes a second. I am "iamtribble" at the site :)

Arlene, your first puzzle and you kicked my butt, like everyone else does every day! I thought todays puzzle was HARD!
Keep up the good work, we need to beat the mememajor person, they are first every day!

It was hard. Karen I used to have to do puzzle like designs for a living when I was a textile artist. In textiles you need to put patterns into "repeats," so you need to learn how to fit pieces. It's all about matching colors and shapes.
It seems that the 7 minutes is a bit too fast to finish that, but I could be wrong.

if you ask me, there is no way that today's puzzle could be finished in only 5 minutes and change. Seems a bit odd that the next closest was double his/her score. BTW: I didn't do so great today. LOL.

Arlene, I agree! I can't figure out how they would cheat, though. I can't even get the edges arranged that fast. If you look at Tuesday's scores, that Nikki person took longer than even me to do the puzzle.

A few times when I have started the puzzle at least a forth of it was already put together. That is how they cheat. I am going to start this new one soon, and there is no way I will be able to finish it in under 30 minutes. I seem to be very slow compared to you two, but it's fun anyway.

I just did the puzzle a second time to see if it went faster when I knew it. I was able to get my score down to 13:03, still a long way from 5:32. Especially since you said that two days ago the person was much lower in the rankings. As you see most of us tend to stay within a range, not swing that far. oh well, I enjoy them just for the personal challenge. :)

Doesn't matter how far, as long as you're able to finish. I look at it like you do Karen. Another way to help stave off mental decline. I've also been doing the suduko's. That I'm usually between 50th and 80th (and half the time I can't finish the hard ones).

Arlene, you have to tell us your puzzling style, do you put your edges together first? Or do you just start anywhere?

first thing I do is hit the arrange button on the bottom and then the ghost button. (I discovered both those about 1 week into doing the puzzles.) However they're just a guide. I start with the edges, but as I go if I see pieces that will fit on the edges or to each other, I'll start that too. I leave the hardest to last and do the obvious ones first. I also don't worry at first where the inside pieces go and instead will build them outside the edges.
I think the biggest thing is learning to see subtle color variations. I actually tell my students that a good way to learn to visually see is to do jigsaw puzzles because you need to see very subtle variations in shade and color.
(It helped that today I knew the painting they have posted. <img border="0" alt="[naughty]" title="" src="graemlins/naughty.gif" /> )
Hope that helps.

Arlene, Thanks for the hints......I'll try them but I'm sure nothing will help. I just have fun doing them.
We always had a puzzle going on the table in the playroom when the kids were at home.

I didn't know that ghost button worked for the challange! I do like to change the background color to light brown, that blue is too dark!
Thanks for the ghost tip!

I also change the background color. I switch to pale yellow......I can see the pieces better with the lighter color.

The ghost image seemed to help me a bit today, either that or the puzzle was easier then usual for me!
Have you girls tried the upload your own picture option on the main jigsaw page? I find that fun to do as well!
