Mark and Jason took a group of customers for a fishing outing in Venice, LA this weekend. Jason just called, he's beside himself; he caught a grouper that the captain thinks might challenge the state record. Record is 36#, Jason said his is between 35# & 40#. He pulled that monster from 360' down, he's going to have some screaming muscles when the adrenaline wears off. They all are; they are almost to the limit of 25 grouper for the day and I don't think any of them are small. Grouper is Mark's favorite fish to eat, too!
He said he got a picture, I'll post it when I get it.

How Exciting! I thought by the title of your post that this referred to Masaki.

We are going to eat as many as they bring home! Jason gave me a Food Saver for Christmas, so I'm ready for them.
(Kathy, that's hilarious, maybe I need to amend my title?)

Congratulations to Jason on reeling in the big fish. I thought of the same thing as ChatKat Kathy when I saw the title of the post. Maybe Kathys think alike.
OK, I'll ask this question - what is a Food Saver? Is that southern for freezer?

LOL! Kathy, a Food Saver is kind of like a shrinkwrap machine thingy. I don't think it's a Southern thing. Our kids will all line up for their share, and we will have to share with all those guys who are also on the boat. But we'll be in fish heaven for a while for sure. try this link

WOW - that is SOME fish, CONGRATS!!!!! (Fish fry at Pam's & Jason's!!!) Grouper is one of my favorite fish too!! And nothing beats "Fresh"!!! I'm sure they'll have some tales to tell on that one - and from soooooo deep!! They'll have to give us their secrets to catching the really big ones - will come in handy for Alaska!! Pam - I LOVE my Food Saver, I've had one for 5+ years now, and have worn one out (which is fine, since they've improved so much and I got an updated version for Xmas!!) I live out in the quasi "Boonies" - and we didn't have a grocery store nearby as we do now - so it came in very handy then!! I vacuum seal everything - especially fresh foods as it keeps longer!! Especially helpful with open wine & marinating meats!!! How did we ever manage without our gadgets!! :app:

Thanks for the education. I have a friend who caught a large (just over 100 #) halibut (she only weighs about 20 pounds more than the halibut) on an Alaskan trip and the company there processed the fish and shipped the frozen vacuum sealed packages to her home. We were lucky enough to be invited to one of the dinners she prepared from the halibut. Delicious!

Mark is taking both Jason and Rich fishing in Alaska in August; I keep telling Rich he needs to try for a halibut the size of a VW. They are all so excited!
Jason is highly competetive, so he was on Cloud 9 for catching the biggest fish so far. While we were talking, somebody brought in one and they were teasing him, but he swore it was at least 10# smaller than his. This was supposed to be a tuna trip, but we're thrilled with the grouper.
I might not have actually given birth to Jason, but neither of us considers that a hitch. He's mine, all mine, just like Sonja and Rich are.

Pam, how do you like that Food Saver? I think I want one desperately but am on an appliance moratorium due to a small kitchen that's jam packed with stuff.
I'd love to see a picture of that fish.

Marsha, I'll have to let you know on the Food Saver after this weekend; I haven't used it yet.
I've told them that they WILL bring me a picture (or email one) if they want me to help package their fish.

Well, crap. Mark called last night and the other boat didn't catch anything. Those people are customers, so they get part of the fish; we'll get one small package.
Claudia, it would be a loong drive for them; the LA in this case is Louisiana. Besides, you know I wouldn't let them come see you without bringing me!

Marty caught a grouper in Baja once. We have a picture of it coming out of the water. The fish had swallowed a great big yellowtail whole. It was a giant grouper and we shared it with all of the people at the lodge that night

Pam,
I was thinking it was here too, but, I never heard of anyone around here catching Grouper. I am not a fisherman, but, I didn't remember even seeing it at the local fresh fish spots either.

Pam I just told Marty about your fish. The one he caught was 260 lbs. In Mexico they are much bigger.

I have a fish picture! (Bette, when they get as big as the one Marty caught, they call them a Jewfish; I don't know if it's the same exact thing or not, but they look just alike to me) He was one ounce short of state record, and four pounds from world record for this particular species of grouper. Trying for a picture instead of a link, so Masaki can see Jason's prize. ![[Linked Image]](http://auctionimages.net/xhost/images/Pam/35jasongrouper.jpg)

Pam, WOW! That is some BIG fish! I'm surprized that he could hold it up alone, considering what it must have taken out of him to land that dude!! Betty
