I'm back! Phone yesterday afternoon, water last night & power around 3 AM. Feel like one of the lucky ones now. Lost part of fence & we have pool. Makes me slightly nervous - know fence replacement will be low category. But I have a roof, no broken windows and dry floors. Consider us very fortunate.

A relief Betty I'm sure. So glad you are OK and came thru with minimal damage.

I just talked to Nancy. No power yet but she is safe. I can now quit worrying as we are all accounted for! The best thing about today is the weather, I feel like I am back in PA as it is cool, no humidity and a chilly breeze!

Thanks, Karen! I am relieved that everyone is accounted for and hopefully the power will come back on soon for Nancy, and STAY on...I know how that is, you have it for several hours, then PSYCHE! It's out again. It's like a cruel game - here's your electricity - NOT! But I do realize that in order for them to bring up other sections, they need to temporarily shut down the working ones...at least that's what they told us when we lived in Florida.

I am so glad it's cool there, Karen - I was hoping so - it sure is crisp up here! Fall is in the air. First time I've opened my windows since last April, I think!

OK - how about NO MORE HURRICANES???

Glad to hear that our Houston girls and families are doing ok through all this mess. Hoping it won't be too long before life is back to near normal.

We got the remnants of IKE up here. I didn't have any power or phone for 44 hours. We had a lot of rain, to flooding levels on Sat., then high winds on Sunday, but no weather warnings. Then, just when the Browns Steelers game came on, they announced hight wind advisory with gusts to 65 miles (actually went to 70), and as soon as they did, power went out. There are still many people without power, so I am grateful mine came back about 5PM last night. The downed trees were unbelievable, but I was lucky, one large branch and lots of little ones, no damage. The weather service really blew it...no advanced warning.

Just checking in! Everyone, thanks so much for thinking about all of us in the Houston area. I'm doing fine and we didn't have any damage to our home but several of our neighbors did. We still don't have power at our home and I don't have power at my office! My husband has power at work but his internet access is really slow. I feel like I'm on a bad camping trip. All in all, we're very fortunate and count our blessings. There are many people in the area, particularly in Galveston that have lost everything.

I can't believe when I got back from the Cle APO,(with Karen's help there will be a new thread as to why I was at the APO) our electric went out again....luckily only for a half an hour. My neighbors said it had been going on and off all day.

We still don't have power! This is getting really old! We're doing ok but it was on the warm side last evening. I'm at my husband's office right now. We're hoping to find a hotel room later but I'm not very optimistic.

Nancy, I feel your pain. I remember those days. It's miserable with no power. I hope you can find a room and get some good rest, and I hope they will get your power restored soon!

Nancy, ditto what Betty said...it must be miserable right now. We've been there, and can say it sure makes you appreciate something as simple as the gift of electricity, that is for sure. We are hoping and praying that it's restored very soon!!

Oh Nancy, I have no idea how you lasted soooo long! I think I would of been tearing out my hair. Did you end up going to a hotel?

Nancy.....FINALLY !! I can't imagine going through what you have. I'm so happy you're getting back to normal.

Nancy, at last your life can begin to return to normal! By my counting, you were living without power, in the heat of a Houston September for 11 or 12 days. Will you need to replace any equipment or do appliances such as your refrigerator just need a good cleaning?

I don't believe I've ever been without power for more than about 5 days. And that was when I was a kid. My parakeet died from the chill. A winter storm took down the power lines and our main problem was keeping warm enough. Food spoilage was not a problem, we kept it out on the porch.

Yea Nancy. Have been thinking about you and wondering if you were still out. I'm sure you are glad to have your power back, although with power out that long, you must have lost food and such and now have to deal with that. Oh my!

Thanks again everyone. We finally got a hotel room Tuesday evening! Since we had power back last night, we gave the room to someone else. I'm still holding the reservation in case we lose it again. Actually, we did lose power for a few hours today because an 18 wheeler ran over something critical several blocks from my home. All is back to normal in regards to power. Kathy, we don't need to replace any equipment or appliances. Also, we were so fortunate not to have any damage to our home.

I hope the bad camping trip is done with!!
