This was brought up on Cruise Critic. Has anyone been on the Regent site lately and looked at the FAQ section? Just look what they say for Country Club Casual. NO GOLF SHIRTS! This must be some big mistake. What the heck do they think Country Club Casual dress is??

As Arte Johnson would have said in a German accent on "Laugh-in" Very interesting!
Is there a difference between a golf shirt and a Polo shirt? I can't imagine Regent enforcing this on the PG in particular.

Not in my mind there isn't!! Golf and Polo are the same.  Guess they won't be liking me much on "FUN" because that is what I will be wearing. Well I might throw in a couple of tropical shirts but the rest will be golf shirts.

That's the only kind of casual shirt that Mark owns; he's always worn those on casual nights. Is this something new?

Just got off Voyager on Aug 16. The Passages newsletter clearly stated EVERY DAY that the dress code was NO GOLF SHIRTS. Even on CCC days. We were not prepared. Ted only brought 2 button down shirts for the informal days.
If CCC does not include golf shirts, they need to change the name to dress casual or something else because I can't figure what else you wear at a country club but a golf shirt.

Not to be contrarian here, but would you wear a golf shirt or a polo shirt in the evening at your country club? I've never seen it.

We've never belonged to a country club, but I can't imagine not wearing a nice knit shirt with collar and a few buttons if not attending a formal event.

Good one Frances! I get all this stuff confused (cc vs informal as I tend to wear the same stuff over and over and nothing fancy) but know Tony takes polo/golf shirts and wears them with a blazer - he just likes blazers who knows why?? -

With daughter Jill working for Lacoste, Tom has some nice "crocodile" shirts. I think they look great. The older I get, the more casual I like the dress to be....lazy I guess!
And now with the strict airline restrictions......!!

LOL Frances - cute but don't you think his arms are kinda skinny? ;) Originally posted by dougburns: Not to be contrarian here, but would you wear a golf shirt or a polo shirt in the evening at your country club? I've never seen it. Absolutely I would. If it is a casual function I think a polo type shirt tucked into a nice pair of chinos, belted, and a nice pair of loafers with a blazer (either on or carried over the shoulder) is perfectly acceptable. Seen it and done it dozens of times.

It would appear that the Polo model could easily meet the CCC standard - Cute, Cute, Cute. All things considered, I would not think that he would be turned away from the dining room. Now, on the other hand, we of the more portly persuasion and stature might well be shown the door if we showed up in that shirt stretched over our rotund midsections. Definitely time for the lovely, loose-fitting Tommy Bahama shirts, no?? After all, why did God invent silk, other than to have it made into XL tropical shirts for us "mature" cruisers??!!

mmm, I do like that polo guy...er...shirt!
I can't quite see how they can call it country club casual when you can't wear the shirt most often worn at a country club. They were NOT enforcing this on the PG in June. The only restriction I remember was no T-shirts at dinner.

Of course I would wear a polo or golf shirt for evenings at our country club. Unless there is some special occasion that is what you wear for country club casual! I find this totally out of line for Regent to say something like this. Utterly ridiculous. At a time when everyone is talking about how difficult it is to fly with luggage and they say something like this. Hello!! Make it easier people at RSSC not more difficult!!

Fred, so well said!
I'm just glad I don't have to worry about this one--David will not wear anything knitted, he only wears buttoned shirts, and I keep him supplied with nice ones.

I guess I am with Doug on this one; golf shirts or polo shirts have always seemed too casual for CCC nights. As I have mentioned before, I think Regent has started down a slippery slope with non-enforcement of dress codes. On our last cruise, there were a couple of (gentle)men who were allowed into Compass Rose on Informal Night without a jacket; something I had never seen before. Don't get me wrong, I greatly prefer cruises that are predominantly CCC with a few Informal Nights; I just don't want to see the dining room (or other venues) getting too sloppy at night.

I think everyone knows that I like to "dress up" no matter what the code is. However, Doug, at our country club, jackets are optional in the evening for the men. I do not agree with it, but that is the way it is. Lynn Adding: Regent does not seem to be in touch with what the majority wants. From what I have read, most people want to go more casual.

On the website it says: Evening attire can be Country Club Casual, Informal or Formal. Country Club Casual consists of skirt or slacks with a blouse or sweater for women, and slacks and collared shirts for men (no golf shirts). Um don't all golf shirts have collars? Very strange.

I agree with Doug and Marc on this one. I think a polo/golf shirt is a little too informal for CCC nights. I'll stick to the Tommy Bahama shirts Fred so cleverly described.
Laurie, I love your new photo. Tom.

That's a Tommy Bahama golf shirt, not the normal kind of Tommy shirt. I think what Tom was referring to was this style: (which is called a camp shirt)

Well, this all may be moot; somebody at CC emailed Regent and got the reply that any and all collared shirts are okay.

Collared shirts makes sense, that is exactly the dress code at our country club.
I suppose I do prefer non-knit shirts on most men (just as I prefer swim trunks not speedos on most men) but there are exceptions (our above polo guy, Michael Phelps in a speedo :app: )
Thanks Tom! I figured it was time to update the photo.

With Mark having had the surgery, we are buying new clothes for him every time we turn around. He loves the George Foreman knit shirts for work, and trust me, he's NOT the kind of person you'd buy silk for (unless he's never allowed to eat, period). He's already going to have to buy new dressy clothes for FUN, and griping about that.

Pam, you should buy one of the button down "silky" camp shirts for Mark to try, I bet he would love them. They are so comfy and washable.

I'm no fashion authority. In my opinion, a shirt that buttons down the entire front is better suited for dinner in a fine restaurant like the Compass Rose then a golf/polo shirt.
After all, they call it a golf shirt because you wear it when you're playing golf. There's a difference between playing golf and having dinner in a nice restaurant.
Of course when we're on vacation we like to dress as comfortably as possible and many men do wear polo shirts to dinner at the CR. But I don't think Mona would let me get away with it.
As for the official RSSC dress code, it does say collared shirts are OK, but it specifically says (no golf shirts.) And as Colleen pointed out, Regent emphasized "no golf shirts" every day on her recent cruise. So it seems to me that golf/polo shirts are an exception to the collard shirts rule. Tom.
PS: Someone else said it straight to the point. Dress codes are really for men. Women can wear anything they want almost any time and place they want to wear it.
