I have to agree with John, very very grateful that we have power and heat - but boy am I sick of this!! We probably have about 8 inches of new snow at this point, although we haven't measured.

Nice Pics, Tom. Hang in there!

Who knew they could have had the Olympics in Washington DC this year. They could do the downhill right off my deck!! They need to truck all this snow to Vancouver! Get it out of here!!!

The snow has slowed quite a bit, but is still coming down. The storm stalled and strengthened right off the Jersey coast and is keeping the snow from clearing out of here.

How's it up there Anne?

LOL Tom, I could have sworn you took those from my deck - our yard looks exactly like that. Wish I knew how to post pictures.

It has finally stopped here. But in just the last hour we have gotten just enough light snow over Frank's shoveling to slightly cover it up. God I hope we can get out of here Friday to Nashville.

WOW! These photos are incredible! Beautiful looking from the inside out.

I do remember the days, living in what was very rural Bayside, Queens, in the 1950's. Our community was very close to Fort Totten. When we would get a heavy snowstorm, the Army trucks would be out in full force to take all the adult residents into town to get provisions.

JoAnn, I do hope you and Frank are able to get to Nashville.

To all our East Coast friends - Stay safe and warm. Hopefully, the snows have subsided. Mother Nature needs to give it a rest!

Ugh! We are, indeed, very close to the worst of the snow this time around. It got nasty around 1 pm and just let up - make than 10 hours of nonstop, wet snow. The white out conditions lasted for about 3 hours.

South Coventry has 26" (west and slightly south of us). This time, power lines are going down around the county. So far, so good in our neighborhood. Keeping my fingers crossed we keep the power and the heat! We expect much stronger winds, a bad combination with frozen wet snow on power lines. Just in case, I cooked a few extra things today should we need them tomorrow. There are isolated reports of roofs collapsing over in southern NJ, who had much heavier snow over the weekend.

In the midst of all this, amazing things. We had routine doctor appointment visits in NJ scheduled tomorrow. They called to tell us they won't be open befor noon tomorrow. Talk about service! Our builder must have a dedicated snow team for our community. The guys have been at it since 5 am this morning, and are still going strong to keep the roads and sidewalks clear. I got busy and made them cookies - they are dead tired at this point. The snow service is fast and thorough.

The interstate highways are closed up here, except for I-95. Why, I ask myself, when the worst of the snow blew its way up the I-95 corridor. It must be because Marc is single handedly keeping those roads open, since he's the only guy with snow tires. As far as I know, those are pretty much outlawed.

Gary has been getting nonstop calls today from the Red Cross. They are in need of folks to run the shelter operations for the areas without power. Lots of the greater Atlantic City area had much worse snow last weekend; some of those folks still don't have power. The winds are already at 48 mph, so the power crews cannot safely go up in the cherry picker trucks to repair the lines. We're not sure how they would even be supplying the shelters, given the states of emergency and the difficulty of traveling along the major (let along side) streets and highways.

Cheers, Anne

Painful to read these messages and we do indeed hope you stay safe, sound and warm.

Cleveland lucked out with only about 6 inches of snow on each blast and we were recently voted the worst winter city to live in. Obviously not true this winter.

When watching the news last night, a woman was interviewed in her home and the camera showed the dogs water bowl in the kitchen being frozen over.

Oh my.............

My folks, visiting my brother in DC, were supposed to go home today. Rebooked to Saturday, and lucky to do so. Three people in a not-huge condo, days on days....I imagine that makes for both tight quarters and tight lips.

Well, the sun is out and temps are soaring into the mid 30's today. I was able to get to the office today. The roads are still bad, but improving. They were out all night clearing our neighborhood and the main roads. I'm the only one here so will probably hop in the 4x4 and start picking up employees so we can get back to a somewhat normal operation.

I'm done with this Winter. SNOW MAS!

John, glad things are getting back to normal. It does make a difference that snow in Colorado and other places is more frequent so people are better prepared. In fact, our tour guide in Salzburg today said that they are required to have snow tires between 1 Nov and mid-April. Still, most of my snow horror stories are from DC as that is first place I ever lived that I had to drive in the snow.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Thanks Marc. We were doing the math last night, and if we add up all the snow we've had in the last 10 days, our county has received 5 FEET of snow in the last 10 days. This is an area that normally gets 15 inches all winter.

It's spreading!

Woke up this morning to heavy snow; we may get up to 6 inches. That's pretty rare for Dallas and it's the fourth snow we've gotten this winter. We usually get some flurries or maybe an inch or two. This has been a very weird winter.

Record snowfall in Dallas today (around 9 inches). Not nearly as dramatic and problematic as the DC area, but the commute tomorrow could be nasty. Ice!!! Got to love it.

First time I've been able to check in for a week or two. I can't believe all of the snow pictures and videos. It's amazing to view. I can't even imagine this. Hope you are all staying safe and warm.

Memphis - snow, Dallas - snow. DC - 5 ft of snow? What's this world coming to?

Here in Tucson, we've had an unusual amount of rain plus a blizzard on top of the Catalinas (at least two of them). We should have a fabulous wildflower season.

Hope this is the end of the bad weather for all.

Hubby was supposed to be back from Dallas at 5 pm yesterday. He got home at 3 am today. Needless to say, he is a grouchy one this am.

Our turn now! Started about 2 hrs ago and is sticking pretty well even though the temp is above freezing. Sue & Tom, a good bit further south, are supposed to get a lot more than us!

More expected Sun. night - just hope the power stays on!!

Yesterday 02/11/10
Every state in the USA had snow somewhere
in their state!
Guess it has been many years since that happened.
