Flying is now a wonderful experience in the best of times, but Bert and I had an interesting Jet Blue experience this past weekend. We were on a flight from Ft. Meyers to JFK this past Friday and had an unavoidable weather delay caused by thunderstorms in NY. After taking off, the pilot apologized and thought we might make up for some of the delay. We experienced some significant turbulence in flight. As we approached the destination, we began circling and he got on the intercom to tell us we would be circling due to thunderstorms and we might be waiting as long as 30 minutes. He told us we didn't have enough fuel for that, so we might have to divert elsewhere. Talk about TMI! I find it impossible to believe that we did not have even 30 minutes of extra fuel, but there were several passengers who became understandably anxious. I tried to detail my comments on their website, but surprise-technical difficulties there, too. :nw:

I guess I'm not surprised that they didn't have extra fuel for 30 aditional minutes; fuel is heavy and the airlines are cutting weight wherever they can. I'm not sure extra fuel is the best way to do it and I completely agree with TMI...why risk freeaking out passengers?

I love Jet Blue. We have flown them several times. Most recently our flight was delayed leaving Long Beach airport, something mechanical so they had to delay it waiting for another plane to come available. While waiting, they provided all sorts of chips, cookies, snacks, cans of soda, bottled water for us in the terminal. The plane left about 2 hours late. I don't know any other airline that would have done that for a delayed flight.
About 2 weeks after returning, Tom and I each received a $50 off voucher for another Jet Blue flight. We booked Jet Blue for our trip to San Jose next month. Using the voucher and getting a sale price, we are flying ROUND TRIP for $39. per person....unheard of.
Agree with you though Mitch, hard to believe they don't have enough extra fuel for 30 minutes!

Last summer on a flight from Lubbock to Dallas (and onward) we were a bit late leaving the gate. As it was a perfectly clear day, I was beginning to wonder why. Then the pilot came on and asked for 2 volunteers to get off. They had put too much fuel on and the plane was too heavy. Got to say, that was a first for me.
