Once you've had one of those special dogs in your life, you never forget the expressions of love that they gave you, the personality they had, and most of all the real, unadulterated love they'd shown to you. It takes a long time, if ever, to heal from their loss.

JoAnn,You are correct. Everyone who has written both public and private messages to us has helped us get through this. We will never forget Maggie, as we have never forgotten Shooie, Murray or Doogie, our boys who have passed on, but were so much fun, albeit anything but perfect... our lhaso,Shooie was insane and anything but a good dog, Murray the Mutt was not all that bright...however, he was sweet and a great big brother to our daughter (we had him for over 18 years), and our sweet tempered and silly 50 pound cocker spaniel, Doogie, was ever so naughty and had all sorts of medical problems. Anyone who met Maggie, even those who hated dogs, were converted to dog lovers after meeting Maggie. She should have been cloned. She was always so gentle, quiet, keen to please and only do the right things which mader her the easiest, sweetest dog. As sick as she was at the end, she only threw up in the bathroom and always went to the door to do her business. Any dog will have a hard time following in her pawsteps. :nw:

Andi - your own tribute to Maggie says it all!!! Any dog in this world would be so lucky to have you and Doug for their parents!! Pawsteps - love it and will remember it when our Shelby passes on, hopefully she and Maggie will meet up on an LCT "dog cruise" in heaven.

Doug has said it several times....these little guys just crawl right into the center of our hearts....and stay there forever!

Aaahhhhhhhh. They give us so much joy, and when it's time for them to leave us, it is so incredibly painful.

Thanks again to you all for helping us get through this trying few weeks.

We drove 5 hours to a breeder today to discuss adopting one of their adult springers. There were two 4 year olds up for adoption...Doug and I selected one of them and if all goes well, Molly will become a new member of the family in a couple of weeks (Oct 28th).

She seems very sweet, but looks and acts nothing like Maggie. Her mother looks a lot like Maggie. It was heart wrenching to see her expressions and the other springer also reminded us of her, so we chose the one who appeared most different from Maggie. Hopefully, she will find happiness with us.

Andi, we have found getting another pet is the best remedy for missing a pet that recently passed. Doug and you will soon treasure your new
family member, but in new, different and special ways--like maggie. Our wonderful problem is we went from having one to four pets!. Congrats on Molly! r/wes

Oh wow, what nice news! I hope it works out well with your new Springer!

We haven't had the heart yet to get another dog, but part of that is that we like to travel, and we both work very hard, and often long hours, so we don't really have the time or energy to integrate a dog into our lifestyle. As well, we will be moving to a condo apartment in about a year, so if we ever do get another dog some day, it will be a small one. I can imagine doing that when we're retired and have more time and less money. For now, I'm content to have a cat, warm and furry is good.

What great news about adopting the adult dog! We had a springer when we lived in WI (18 yrs ago) and her name was Molly! :)

I hope all works out and soon you will be posting what Molly is up to at your home!

Robert, what a wonderful quote!

Andi and Doug - any dog lucky enough to be adopteed by you will find happiness! You can never replace Maggie, but I hope Molly worms her way into your hearts soon!

Andi & Doug - I think it's wonderful that you are thinking of adopting another pet. When we lost Kirby, Greg wanted to immediately get another dog, and I was dead-set against it (too heartbreaking). Until, that is, I saw this little Italian greyhound puppy with a mini-pinscher sitting its hind-end on the greyhound's back. This is exactly what our Gracie had always done to Kirby when he was alive. We took it as a sign, and here we are almost 2 years later with our new little iggy, Bango. The scary thing is, he has many of Kirby's personality quirks/traits. It's almost as if a part of Kirby is living on in Bango. We can't explain it, but it sure is comforting to feel him around us still!

Please keep us posted about Molly - we wish you the best!

Thanks all for your nice words...

I must say that it is Andi who wants another dog asap. Not to replace Maggie, who can never be replaced.
Rather to fill our home with a life again.

I don't need to tell any of you who have been throught this, the house is empty. I look into rooms & expect to see Maggie. I know that Andi does the same.

Molly is a sweetie. Different coloring, face, weight & body shape than Maggie was, which, I think, is a good thing.

As we get closer to actually having Molly in our home, I'll share more..maybe even a picture!

Another dog will not replace Maggie, but will complement your memories of her. When my aierdale died, my ex wanted to bury him in the backyard. Four months later, in the middle of winter, when I was least ready, along came Spunky, a sweet goldendoodle (My aierdale was a great dog--the first is always the greatest--but I would never call him sweet). During his adolescence, he dug big, deep holes all over the yard. I still fall in some today. The one place he did not dig was in the area above the aierdale's grave. To this day, he will go and sit there on a bright sunny day.

Ok, I wasn't going to do this so early.... BUT Andi asked me to send her the two pictures I took of Molly on Sunday. So, I had to reduce their size before emailing them to her...& since I had a photo in a reasonable size..... well, here ya go....

(BTW, Diane, that was a sweet story. AND you are 100% right. No dog 'replaces' any of the others. I could keep you going for hours with stories about the dogs we have had.... as most of you could!)

Ladies & Gents, I present Molly!

She's beautiful, Doug! When does she come home to be with you and Andi?

When I lost my best ever dog, Buddy, many years ago people did not understand the empty house syndrome. I ended up with a new puppy a few weeks later. I named her Rosebud but she never could compare to Buddy. They're all different - just like we are. Congratulations.

We are planning on the formal adoption occurring at 10am on October 28th. We wanted to take her home last weekend, but her owner wanted to ensure that our house was dog ready. We tried to convince her that it has been dog ready for 22 years! But, she's making us come back for her. I am ever so excited to have her join the family.

I still lurk here every once and a awhile. I've kept up with Maggie's story. I lost my Boader Collie the day after 911. She was 17 years old and had lost control of everything. My Daughter had to tell me enough was enough and she did the deed.

For me, Heven would be a place where I could be with all the dogs I've had in my life. I still have those dreams everyonce in awhile I'm there playing with them. As I get older that doesn't seem to make my own demise half bad.

I got Cahlie a 3 year old BC and we have been together ever since. They are not the same dogs but they have that same spirit.

So Doug and Andie enjoy your new Springer. It's not the same but then again it really is.
