Andrea, although it is close right now (so saying NE just scored again), I don't think anyone can beat NE this year. Don't worry.
Jim, I will be rooting for the Giants (my Bengals didn't even come close to the playoffs, so I pick my favorites of whoever is playing) So far, none of my teams I have rooted for has won!

That was a wonderful game but we kept getting up to put on a sweater or find a warm drink - it looked so cold!

I loved the snowdrifts on the bills of the coaches' caps - amazing how they can play in those conditions. All I can say is WOW! (and glad I'm in FL - 77 degrees here today - no snow in sight!)

Good heavens! I was ready to call out the avalanche spotters. It was reminiscent of the old Ice Bowl game.

So far the Gints are 7-0 on the 'Boyz.

Who knew the Chargers would clip the Colts? More injuries in that game than usual.

Cheers, Anne

Upsets in both games yesterday. Looks like Caughlin's job is secure for next year with the Gints.

Once again, I find myself rooting for the Packers. Jim - just go. It'll be memorable for a whole variety of reasons.

Cheers, Anne

Just got this little poem from a friend in Green Bay. Forgive me.

Now I lay me down to bed
A wedge of cheese upon my head.
Allegiance to the Packers I promise to keep
And cheer them on while I'm asleep.

If I should die, don't let me wonder,
Just bury me neath the frozen tundra.
But, Lord, before you take my soul,
Let me see the Pack in one more Super Bowl.

Forgive me Lord, for those I've hated,
The Lions and Bears, they're overrated.
The streets of heaven, so I've been told,
Are paved for us in green and gold.

If I get to heaven I'll have only one wish,
A big screen TV with a satellite dish
I pray for this Lord, for only one reason,
To cheer on my Pack to a winning season.

I'll close this prayer by thanking you Lord,
For listening to me and the time you afford.
But please remember the Vikings in their despair,
Because that's a team that hasn't a prayer!!

John

Great article Jim and so true! If given the chance I'd be in line to shovel snow for Brett and the rest of the Pack!

Toms home office is Packer-fied with our prized one share of Packer stock and other fine memorabilia.

The cheeseheads will be taken out of the closet on Sunday, we will all don our good luck Packer shirts (Tom and our son only wash their shirts if they don't win - bad luck to wash it if they win)!

On a side note: I just started reading the book by Deanna Favre today. It was given to me as a get-well gift. I can hardly put it down it is such a wonderful book! :)

I packed and moved about 3 giant loads today in 1 - 3 degrees. I'm here to tell you, I am too old for this! I've been back in the "old house" for 2 hours and my face is still burning! Good thing vino is thawing......

Jim, like Marcie says, TV sounds like a plan!!!

It's a balmy 4 degrees here this morning. I've got several relatives in eastern PA that are Giants fans (an a few Eagles fans). Their fun is at the games between each other, but I know they're all rooting for the Giants today.

Favre homage: on bended, creaky knee
November 29, 2007

NBC has 'Bionic Woman.' The NFL has Brett Favre, the bionic man. Guess which one is having the better season? I don't know what you're eating, Mr. Favre, but pass the candy dish. You're maybe the last
American hero. A postmodern DiMaggio. A Wyatt Earp. You're about 140 years old, with the smile of an 8-year-old and a gun like Zeus.

You do all the things the other superstars don't. You play in that city by the bay, an obscure little place with more chipmunks than people, more deer rifles than cell phones. Up there in northern Wisconsin, you don't ride in limos; they just send over Santa's sleigh.

You're us, which isn't so bad -- at least if you ask us. You're not some natty dude, a blingy gold-toothed Liberace. No three-pointed kerchief in your suit pocket, like the male mannequins back in the Fox studio. No sir. You wear your hair like the 18th green, short and fast. You could comb it with a golf towel.

Yep, we appreciate your sense of style -- the plain gray T-shirts and the faded jeans. You've got that same lovely wife you started with. Your beard's getting a little frosty, the jowls a little puffy, but she's stuck by you, that woman. Through your tough times. And you through hers.

Love your loyalty, love your work. The cynics claimed you were done. 'Retire, fool,' they said last season. 'Put a fork in Favre. His popper has popped.'

Turns out they were the fools. They forgot you were part Choctaw, part '56 Chevy. You're having your greatest season yet, playing like a legend. And like a scrub who just appreciates the chance to suit up.

Sure, your wheels don't work like they used to. People forget that you have the same degenerative hip disease that permanently sidelined Bo Jackson. At 38, you can sprint with the kids for about three half-steps, then .... look out ... cruuuuuuunch. Those first steps on a Monday morning must really snap-crackle-pop. Talk about a working stiff. Welcome to the club.
When you're not at work, you're at home, just like the rest of us middle-aged saps. I'll bet she's already nagging you about all the Christmas junk, huh? Brett, can you bring those boxes up from the basement? Brett, how about hanging the outdoor lights on the birch tree? That sort of stuff. Like the rest of us, you don't need a holiday to remind you of your blessings.

Yep, you're us all right, and we couldn't be more thrilled. You don't like to miss work under any condition. It's just the way you were raised. A guy thing. You don't miss work. In almost 300 games, including two Super Bowls, you haven't missed a start. It is the sports stat of our time.

And we certainly don't mind your sense of craft, your safecracker's cool. One moment, you're zinging thunderbolts across the middle. The next you're looping 9-iron shots in the end zone. The laser bomb that beat the Broncos? Boom! Brilliant.

You're what we all hoped to become in the backyards of our youth. You play as if you're hanging with your pals, and the sun is setting and the moms are calling everyone home for supper. Come on, Brett, your buddies say. One more. One more series ....

Blanda. Nicklaus. Aaron. They all played their respective games a long time, gave us old-timers hope. Now you're our time machine, our fountain of goof.

Lombardi will be watching from his skybox, barking out commands, wondering where the hell Hornung is.

Also cheering will be millions of gimpy guys a little past their prime for whom you've become this year's most compelling sports story. An inspiration. A Perseus in cleats.

So, come on, Brett. One more. One more series

…………

It may be cold, but one of the best games ever played was won in the cold by Bart Starr and the Pack. Let's hope it's as good today. GO PACK.

I don't feel any pull for the Giants, there's no magic there. Brett Favre is The Man today and I'll watch with fingers crossed and a big prayer to the football Gods....Go Pack!

John that was GREAT! Thanks for sharing it! :)

Brett really is "just a regular guy" and that's why so many folks love and admire him (just my opinion).

As a get-well gift some Packers friends gave me the latest Sports Illustrated from the game last week with Brett on the front in the snowstorm. They also gave me the book by Deanna Favre "Don't bet against me". I am telling you I read that book in less than a day. It was the best book - everyone should read it because it really hits to home. You don't have to have breast cancer to relate to her book - it is more about her life and what a strong woman she is and how much she loves Brett, her family and God.

I have my #4 jersey on, hubby has his Packers muscle shirt on, son will be here soon with his Jennings jersey.

GO PACKERS!!!!! :ch:

Gints draw first blood 3-0. The under/over is 41.5 points. With that kind of weather, I'll take the under.

How come no PAckers fans have posted here since the game went into Overtime?

Did something happen there that the Packers weren't happy about?
