Hi All,

I was introduced to this board by my pal Claudia. We've been on two Oceania cruises together - the inaugural in Europe and then last month in South America.

I've not been on a Radisson or Silver Sea cruise yet, but I did take a tour of a Radisson ship last summer when it was docked here in NYC. DH and I hope to get on one of those ships in the not too distant future. So, I'll probably ask more questions than I answer.

Other lines we've cruised with - Celebrity, Princess and HAL. My first cruise was our honeymoon, 14 years ago, on one of the small Renaissance 114 passenger ships.

Though we love cruising most of our travels are on land and we've been to many places. But we do love our cruises too!

I'm a native NYer and love my city. Anyone visiting here pre/post cruise, I'd be happy to give any NYC info.

CJ

CJ,

Welcome to LCT! We have quite a few residents of NYC around here. And some who wish we were (well, at least part time). I'll meet Claudia in a few weeks at our West Coast Gathering/Welcome Home brunch for Marcie and Tom. Look forward to your posts.

Hi, CJ--welcome to LCT!! I'll be meeting Claudia, also at the May brunch. I haven't been to NY in years, but I remember how very much there was to do there (I grew up back east). I'm thinking of maybe doing the Canal cruise in '06, taking the train to NY or Ft. Lauderdale and then cruising back to L.A. So, I might be there. Glad you joined LCT.

Welcome, CJ!

My husband, Alan, and I are also NYers - now living in So. CA. Where in NY do you live?

Hope you post often!

Denise,

Thanks for the welcome.

We live 4 blocks south of Grand Central Station and 4 blocks north of the Empire State Building, in Murray Hill.

I spent most of my adult life in Chelsea in the West 20's til about 7 years ago when we moved to boring Murray Hill.

Which neighborhood did you live in?

Betty,
If you need some NYC restaurants for your pre-cruise stay just ask. Although it seems that Masaki has it pretty well covered.

Hi CJ,

Living anywhere in the City is exciting and wonderful.

Alan and I both started out in the Bronx and then moved to Queens. We moved from Queens to So CA, specifically Orange County, CA, in 1970. Talk about boring!

We went back home to NY last May just for an adrenaline boost and to get our fill of pizza, deli and Chinese food. How I miss and love NY!

Denise,

I love NY too. I don't know if I could live in any other place in the US or not. I adore walking by the Chrysler building everyday and I used to have an office in the Empire State Building. However, my partner and I moved since we got tired of tripping over the tourists in the lobby all day, every day! LOL!

I'm not a big fan of chinese food or deli, but we certainly do have the best of it here, especially deli. You can't get it anywhere else!

Yes, CJ...You got that right! And, the pizza! Oh how I miss that!

It was a very hard adjustment going from a big and bustling city to small town life in Orange County in 1970. Things here have changed, but certainly OC does not hold any candles to NY! We don't find LA to be comparable, either (just my opinion, so please...no one get upset with me!). However, our weather is great!

Denise,

As yes, the great NY/LA "debate". My Dad lived in LA before he died 2 years ago and my best friend lives there, so I do get there. "It's a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there"! :)

Kathy,

My Dad lived on 3rd (or 7th?) and San Vicente in Santa Monica - my stepmother still lives there. And my friend lives near Wilshire and La Brea.

Welcome, CJ! We were in NY long enough to board the Navigator in Sept and to return home. I hope someday to return for a longer period of time and really see it.

We want to hear from you, so please post often.

CJ,

My grandparents home was near Wilshire and LaBrea, my mom grew up there (graduated Fairfax High School 1949) I have lots of friends in that area. I grew up in Beverlywood, halfway betwwen your friends and your parents in Santa Monica.

New York, however, also feels like home to me. Must be because there are so many NY transplants here.

CJ - a belated but warm welcome to LCT!!! I'm another one that will get to meet Claudia at the 5/1 brunch. We'll be thinking of you that day, too! My first cruise was scheduled on a Renaissance ship for 12/01, but the bankruptcy took care of that. So we regrouped and booked with Radisson Navigator for the following year. Hope you get a chance to try RSSC soon. We'd love to hear your opinions. Oceana is also one line I'd like to try.

Looking forward to hearing more from you!!!

Cyndi,

We were booked on Renaissance - all packed and ready to go. One day before we were leaving our TA called and said they went out of business! We were lucky that we hadn't left for our pre-cruise days yet.

As a result of the bankruptcy, as you can imagine, the Ren board bacame very active! When Oceania took over one of the Ren ships, the Oceania board was formed and I booked the inaugural cruise, which was to be over a year away. About 60 of us chattered away and then all met and party'ied on that cruise. Claudia and I were good pals even before the cruise. Once we got together, everyone else was in trouble! :)

I'm sorry I won't be in Cal for the 5/1 brunch. I know you'll all have a fantastic time. I'm hoping for a full report......with photo's!

Denise - thanks! Great one of you as well.

Hi CJ
Welcome aboard.
We had a group of 10 signed up on the Ren ship to Tahiti and were also affected by 911. Fortunatly everyone received a full refund and that is how we found Radisson, Paul Gauguin, and Brown & Keene Travel.

Hi CJ
Welcome!! I spent several days in NYC last year, stayed on West Side at a wonderful little hotel, between tours. Looking forward to being there again this fall. Have you heard about the Tahiti Days at Time Warner Center, happening this week? Sounds like fun. Before that have spent many days in NYC for business and pleasure. Might have questions before my next trip. My husband and I are going on our first cruise in June, the PG around FP. Enjoy spring in NYC
