I am starting to research a one day tour in Rome for B2B. Need to be picked up at ship and taken back. Any recommendations? It will probably be 4, maybe a couple more, and I would want to work with them to customize what we do. The day trip is on a Sunday, so the Vatican will be closed, so we don't have to worry about that. Our friends haven't been to Rome, so I sort of know what we want to take them to see, but in looking at the possible ships tours, didn't see anything that was quite what I think we might want. We don't have to see everything, just the highlights and a little walking around on our own. I'm not real comfortable taking the train transfer, as I know thats an option of possible tours, but we'd prefer not to do that.
Has anyone done this before? Taken a private tour to/from the ship in a one day stop?

Thanks.

JoAnn we have taken this type of tour from the ship in Rome with our kids, and it was great. It was the kids first time in Rome, and we only had that one day. We us an agency named Palazzi phone # 011 39 06 87 09 21.

They are very professional. The driver we always use is Giovanni Santori, but they are all quite good as we have used others from Palazzi before we met Giovanni. Please let me know if you use them and how you liked their service.

Doris - I actually cannot seem to get anything from that website, except an "event planner" site. Is there maybe a different site I could look at? Sorry have tried it several times, and it does give the option of english or italian, but it seems to be more of a big event planning site and I don't see anything for tours in Rome.

Hi Joann, If you are still looking, I am just back from a Med cruise with my 2 sisters and 2 nieces. We had a great time with Max Rocca. He speaks English perfectly and will pick you up at the pier and tailor whatever you want. e mail is: max.rocca@hotmail.it, mobile phone is 39-3284222329. Try his website www.easitalytours.com. Recommend him highly. I am sure he will remember us 5 "girls" from last week! He was alot of fun and claims to knnow where all the best gelato is in Rome.

My first trip to Rome my partner had set up a tour with ScalaReale. They've now changed their name to "Context".

http://rome.contexttravel.com/main/home/
I don't know how they'd work out the transportation as we met our guides at designated places and times.

Here's the review I put on my website:

If you've seen the sites of Rome, you've also seen the crowds of tourists scrambling after tour guides - each waving their tell-tale "follow me" signs - the yellow umbrella, the blue and white flag, the walking stick with the colorful scarf tied on. These all fall under the category of "how NOT to see Rome". A much better alternative is Scala Reale. This group offers a bevy of personalized tours (most maxing out with six participants). On our first trip to Rome we signed up for one of Scala Reale's tours and enjoyed it so much, we took two more in the days to follow. What makes them so unique? It's their guides. Most of them are American's studying or living abroad. Imagine if you will, taking their Vatican tour guided by an Art History major. Or being shown the sites of the Forum and Colliseum through the eyes of an architect. On each of our tours our small groups took well needed breaks at such places as a wine bar, a gelateria, and a lemonade stand. Each tour made for a memorable information filled half day. And in such small groups, I felt entirely comfortable asking as many questions as came to mind.
