Just looking for a little insight on Tallinn from those who have cruised there. Is it pretty easy and safe to walk to old town from the ship? I've checked out a few maps online, and it doesn't look too far. We will be there on a Sunday, and instead of taking a tour, would like to walk into town on our own to attend Mass at the Cathedral of Apostles Peter and Paul if we can. Maybe Regent provided a shuttle? Although, we really would rather walk if it's not too strenuous and the weather is nice.

I was there in 2000. Very safe back then. Was also there on a Sunday. It was a memorable experience to go into the churches during services. My 1st trip to Europe so I was in awe of everything. Is this church in the upper or lower part of town? And where does the ship dock? I did the upper part so took a tour. My friends did the lower and walked. Was on the Diamond which is smaller than Voyager so don't know if they would dock at same location now. Sorry I can't be more helpful, but you will enjoy the church I think.

Cindy, If I remember correctly, the ship's shuttle drops you just outside the entrance to old town.

We were there summer 2006. Regent provided a shuttle to the entrance of the old town. The town is lovely, and very easy to walk around. Charming.

From what I can tell, this church is in the lower part of Old Town, on Vene street. I guess we will probably wait to see where the shuttle drops us off and if it's close to where we need to be. In looking at the satellite maps, it looks like the ships dock less than half a mile from Old Town.

Right at the outside of the old town is a very little market with the most wonderful double knitted and felted mittens. I think of Tallin whenever I wear them

There is a dock about 1/2 a mile from Old Town. It's walkable but there are cabs right there for $5.00 or so that drop you off right where you want to be. The flower market at the entrance was lovely. The streets and alley ways charming. We felt very safe. The people were friendly and helpful. It was one of our favorite ports on our Baltic Cruise last year on Oceania.

We took a ship's KGB tour. We finished at the Resistance Museum (highly recommend and it was the reason we took the tour as it is closed on Mondays when we were there but with the tour you get in). They dropped us off at the spot where the shuttle drops people off at the end of the tour as we requested that (so we would know where the shuttle stops). Then we explored the old town. It was really interesting, though the only thing we did was eat. We had lunch at Old Hansa because we wanted to try Estonian food. It was really good. Then we just walked around a bit. Totally safe feeling place.
