Kathy, I think what you need is a DVR and not a DVD. What cable company do you have, most of them provide their own DVRs for digital cable. If not, I suggest you get somthing like Tivo, which allows you to record other channels while watching yet another channel.
With Digital cable, you can only watch the channel you are recording on your VCR.
