Le Chantecler comes to mind (well, alright it's at Hotel Negresco which is the only reason why I knew about it), and a friend of mine recommended a place called Le Boccaccio. Any other suggestions?

Lawrence...it's been a few years....and I can't even remember the name of the place..but it was just an informal restaurant not far from the casino (and the Negresco) and we had a fabulous meal of pasta and pizza and wine (always, lots of wine). You could also try some of the restaurants in the old quarter (the mall)
again - I don't think you'll go wrong!!!!!

(Oh - and skip the casino....you have to give them your passport and pay to get in. Not worth it!!!!!)

Many, many years ago we stayed at the Negresco for a week, rented a car and drove to various areas each day. On the Grande Corniche are 2 of the most famous restaurants in the world.
La Bonne Auberge (Churchill dined there) and La Veille Maison. The ambience, the views, the romance and the food. Check to see if they are still there.

Hi.

You're right about Chantecler, more affordable at mid-day, gorgeous room (we last were there before Chef Llorca left, so don't know what will follow his fusion menu) -- if you're staying there it is an easy choice or a great choice if you're hosting guests on an expense account. Your friend was right about Boccaccio, great pan-Med menu, on a pedestrian street above Place Messina.

If you want to keep "high end," L'univers-Christian Plumail, inventive "de Pays" (regional, think pigs feet), at Place Messina, NOT open on weekends. Typical city food, very good, very reliable, Brasserie Flo, above Place Messina, a pre-War theater converted to brasserie, fun.

On the boat basin, L'Ane Rouge, very Niçoise, high end. Or if it's a pretty day and you would prefer to eat on a terrace, Les Pêcheurs a little further down the quai. Both for seafood.

An easy taxi ride outside town in Bealieu-sur-Mer, evening meal only, Réserve de Beaulieu. Nouveau Niçoise, high-style, terrific views (we were last there before Chef Cussac left).
