I know we need yellow fever shots but should we take Malaria pills also? Not keen on taking any meds.

We went last week and got Yellow Fever shot, Hepatitis shot, Tetanus shot, Malaria pills and Typhoid vaccine pills...the works! Joanna & Tony got all of the above too except the Typhoid vaccine. This is what was recommended even though just the Yellow Fever shot is all that is required to get the Brazil Visa. We figured since we would need to get these for Africa next year (and since the Dr. recommended all of this for the SA cruise) we'd just get it now. The good news, it was all covered 100% under our Kaiser insurance with no co-pay.

And the yellow fever lasts 10 years!

Update on Malaria pills. Talked to 2 doctor friends, 1 is an infectious disease specialist. Absolutley, positively you should take malaria pills if you are going to be anywhere in South America.
