Does the PG dive shop use aluminum or steel tanks? Also, are the weights in kilograms or pounds?

Lisa, they use aluminum and have your weight belts (lbs) ready for you at the start of each dive...in fact your bc/reg/tanks are already in the zodiac, your belts, wetsuits are prepostioned on the sports platform just waiting for you....have fun! r/wes

Thanks Wes. I’ve heard that the salt concentration is higher in French Polynesia than in the Caribbean. Did you notice if you required more weight here than you did on your Navigator cruise?

All I can tell you is that their great advice got my weight belt down FAR below anything I had ever dived with before. They know what they are doing. You can trust them.
Have a great time!

Doug, I agree with you. They are quite good at putting together the right gear for you. It is so nice to be able to just go down from your suite to the sports platform and jump in the zodiac and off to the dive site. Then back and up to your suite for a shower. We just got back from diving off another ship and it is such a hassle to tender to shore, take either a shuttle or boat to the dive shop. Wait to get equipment, get back on a dive boat, out to the site and then having to do all the steps in reverse. The PG just spoils you.

I am going to be so spoiled after diving with them, I won’t want to use any else again (guess we will have to plan on a return trip). The reason I asked if they used metric or imperial weights is because I use a weight integrated BC and use soft weights for my trim weights; seems to help with back pain. I will be taking the trim weights with me and if they use kg weights I will need to take that into account.
I took a neutral buoyancy class a few years ago which has been invaluable. Prior to a trip I can do a buoyancy check at my LDS and work out trim and orientation with respect to what mm full suit or shorty I will be diving with.
I would love to take Texas dive t-shirts to the staff as a thank you. Are Dominique (sp?) and Camille the only staff? I want to make sure I take enough shirts.
Thanks again for letting me ask all these questions.

Lisa,
Normally the PG Dive team is Dominique, Camille and Christophe however, I believe Dominique is now on his honeymoon with karina (an Asst PG Hotel Director, me thinks) and he won't be back until mid June..also during the dives one of the team takes hundreds of shots that are shown the Friday night at the Dive party (free drinks!) where you can buy the CD ($17) and the Dive Masters sign/stamp your log book...your T-shirt idea is a nice touch...good thinking...r/wes
