Fantastic onion rings at Prime 7!
Problem is it's difficult for the will-power challenged - like me - not to eat too many!

Thanks, y'all. Since I'll be on the Voyager in 3 weeks, I'm making my list!!!
My favorite is the salt sticks in the bread basket at dinner. :yummy1: I'll go off my low carb diet for them! My limit is one per night.......

Joanna, when my family of 8 were on the cruise together, we'd need two baskets of just salt sticks. One night in the CR, the waiter we had the night before brought us our own basket as we sat down.... and we weren't in his section! Now that is Regent's great service.

Karen, sorry I cant ever eat foie gras:
Animal rights and welfare groups such as People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA),[1] Farm Sanctuary[2] and the Humane Society of the United States[3] contend that foie gras production methods, and force feeding in particular, consist of cruel and inhumane treatment of animals. Specific complaints include livers swollen to many times their normal size, impaired liver function, expansion of the abdomen making it difficult for birds to walk, death if the force feeding is continued, and scarring of the esophagus.
PETA claims that the insertion and removal of the feeding tube scratches the throat and the esophagus, causing irritations and wounds and thus exposing the animal to risk of mortal infections.[4]
In 2001, the Director of the New York State Government Affairs & Public Policy Dept. for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals wrote a letter to then NYS Attorney General, Elliot Spitzer, asking that the state's foie gras producers be prosecuted for violating animal cruelty statutes.[5] No action was taken, however.
Late in 2003, the French group Stopgavage ("Citizens' Initiative for the banning of force-feeding") published the Proclamation for the Abolition of Force Feeding, which asks justices to find foie gras production practices a violation of existing animal welfare laws.[6] For this manifesto Stopgavage claims the support of over eighty French animal rights and welfare associations, over a hundred such associations from 25 other countries, and over 20 thousand individual signatories.[7]
Stopgavage, through its president Antoine Comiti, has criticized the INRA (a French public research institute) for allowing its researchers to receive grants from the foie gras industry for conducting research aimed at contradicting the EU report conclusions.[8] Robert Dantzer, a retired INRA researcher, calls the INRA studies "pseudoscience" and "convenience research".[9]
In 2005, the organisations APRL, IDA and PETA released a video narrated by Sir Roger Moore showing footage the groups took inside the three U.S. foie gras farms and several in France.[10]
PETA wants this practice, which they say is cruel,[11][12] stopped. Various American celebrities have lent their voices to this public campaign. Most recently in April 2009 PETA released a letter written by the late television and stage actor Beatrice Arthur to TV chef Curtis Stone deploring the practice of Foie gras.[13]

I loved those cheese rolls too--too much. Probably better for me that they are gone. The salt sticks are yummy too, but I have a limit on one per night!

I'm all for bringing back those cheese rolls. Suzie introduced them to me on our very first Regent cruise - what do we have to do to bring them back? I just love the onion rings in Prime 7 too - can you order these in Compass Rose? Lee

Sorry, Karen. For about the same number of calories as the pretzel sticks and cheese rolls on your plate above, I could have a one pound New York Stip in Prime 7. :D Isn't it great that they stock all of our favorites!!!

Speaking of pretzels, whenever Mike is the chef on my sailing, I get excited. ![[Linked Image]](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/iamtribble/100_4927.jpg) And I must be carb depraved, I have so many pix of bread from my cruises ;) ![[Linked Image]](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/iamtribble/100_4932.jpg) And here is a pic of Joanna wielding a salt stick ![[Linked Image]](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v495/iamtribble/100_4794.jpg)

LOL, I thought salt sticks were those skinny tall things that are no more than a cracker! Guess that's a plain old bread stick.
Ah, last pix has another often scarce thing on Regent on several past cruises, Santa Margharita! Please don't send that the way of the cheese rolls, Regent! Never fails that they run out, and have to wait several ports to restock.
If I had the cyber sense to know how to set up a link to a petition to get cheese rolls back, I would!

Hiya, folks!
I registered explicitly to respond to this thread; I had to.
I was on the Mariner from RIO->FLL in March this year. I noticed the absence of the parmesan rolls -- my favorite -- and mentioned it several times to dining companions.
Finally, a few days from the end of the trip, I happened to mention to a waiter, "I guess you've stopped making the parmesan rolls, huh? Ah, well."
Two nights later, perhaps the last night of the trip, in Compass Rose, THERE THEY WERE!!!
I'm not thinking that my lone comment caused their resurrection. Perhaps several people had mentioned them. BUT, they did bring them back, at least for a moment. To my sorrow, by that point in the cruise I was only able to snarf down one of them!

I'm with you Marc - freshly fried fois gras is heavenly. I love it when they cook it on the grill during pool deck lunches. It's approved by the other PETA - People Eating Tasty Animals. Jim

On a "lighter" note:
A snail, apparently fleeing a Regent chef, collided with a turtle. The police asked: "What happened?"
The snail replied: "I don't know - it happend so fast!"

Thanks for the welcome, Karen!
Not sure about next year yet ... usually do one in February or March, but it's up in the air right now; there's a lot going on. I'll let you know when it settles!
I'm just glad to be of service here, and I hope I'm not reporting an isolated anomaly ... but, apparently they still know how to make the cheese rolls and will do so if enough people ask!

Something missing from all the lists above is the Indian food you can special order at the Compass Rose. We do this on every cruise and it has always been good, and sometimes wonderful! The Indian chefs who cook for the crew make it. You need to ask for it to be served at their convenience and nto be too specific about dates. If you like Indian food this is a real treat.
As for the foie gras issue - this won't catch on here in Europe. I have yet to meet anyone who won't eat it!! You can feed it to me any way you like - Tornedos Rossini, plain old roasted or in a "spread". Yum!

Our favorite special order is a carrot cake for special occasions (which we usually have on a cruise, since we cruise in November, the month of both our birthdays). Joe is allergic to chocolate and Joan to strawberries, so it's great to have a special cake that we can both eat.
As for the chocolate coated strawberries at the block party, no takers from our room!

I was surprised that horse was frequnetly on menus when we were in Switzerland but never anywhere else we went in Europe.

Horse was served in restaurants in France and I suspect I had it unknownly once many years ago. In Switzerland I only ate chocolate.
Like frog legs taste like chicken- I've been told - horse tastes like beef - if that's what I had.
